Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donn Kinney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Souza has chosen Blindao as his entrance music. Donn Kinney has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Donn Kinney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Souza!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kinney gets caught flat footed, as Souza shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Souza not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Kinney controlling the position.
Souza trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kinney's guard.
Souza looking to pass the guard.
Kinney manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Souza manages to get himself to full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kinney distracts Souza with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Souza wants to control but Kinney passes easily into half guard.
Souza is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kinney scores with a couple of nice shots.

Kinney takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Kinney could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kinney is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Kinney lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Souza is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kinney's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kinney's back!

Souza working for a choke but Kinney is defending well.

Souza is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Kinney knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Kinney for a finish.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kinney trying to control the position but Souza manages to sink in the hooks.
Souza throws a series of strikes and Kinney wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here.

Souza goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Kinney is on top in guard.
Souza is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kinney working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kinney's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Kinney stands up over Souza, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Kinney chips away with some ground and pound.

Kinney stands up and waves to Souza to follow him.
Souza looks winded!

Souza gets a double leg takedown into Kinney's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Kinney manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Kinney breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Souza drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kinney holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Kinney manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Kinney keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Donn Kinney will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Souza dives in and scores a takedown into Kinney's guard.

Kinney pushes Souza off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

It looks like Donn Kinney has been cut.

Souza drives through with a takedown into Kinney's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kinney has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Souza off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Daniel Souza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Souza wants to break the clinch but can't.

Souza has hold of one of Kinney's legs. Kinney is fighting the takedown attempt but Souza gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Kinney is pulling down on Souza's head. It's preventing any offense from Souza, at least for the moment.
Kinney will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Souza wants to control from the top but Kinney keeps moving.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kinney wants to sweep here but Souza controlling him for the moment.
Kinney seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Donn Kinney overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kinney continues to stall.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Souza shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kinney manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Kinney has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kinney can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Souza controls the pace.
Souza wants to get up but he can't break Kinney's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kinney is pulling down on Souza's head. It's preventing any offense from Souza, at least for the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Daniel Souza showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Souza wants to improve his position but Kinney is controlling well.

Kinney is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Kinney holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Souza is trying to control the action in half guard but Kinney is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Kinney is defending against the submission attempts here by Souza.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Souza takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Souza is looking to control Kinney's arms but Kinney gets an underhook and turns him. Now Souza has his back to the cage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kinney breaks from the clinch.

Souza feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kinney has his hands on Souza's head, controlling the position.
Souza looking to sit in guard and control but Kinney gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Daniel Souza.
I think Souza has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
