Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rickson Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duncan Waters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Duncan Waters!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Waters scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Maia with a lazy takedown attempt
and Waters cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Maia takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Waters scores with a nice head shot.

Waters fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maia, pushing him back against the cage.
Waters lands an uppercut.

Maia has clasped his hands together around Waters's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Maia scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Waters to see if he's OK.
Maia has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Maia tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Maia has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee asks Maia politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Maia prefers to stall for the moment though.

Maia tries to score with some ground and pound. Waters controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Waters can do anything to dispel that myth.

Waters fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Maia is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Waters can do to turn this around?

Waters seems to have recovered his senses.
Waters moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Maia wants to take the fight to the mat but Waters manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Maia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Waters swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Waters wants to stand and escape but Maia is having none of it.

Maia is pushing down on Waters's leg trying to pass to half guard. Waters is fighting to maintain full guard but Maia has managed to sneak the leg through.

Maia seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Waters does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Maia is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Waters doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Maia.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Maia darts in looking for a takedown but Waters gets double underhooks and turns Maia into the cage.

Waters digs a good body shot into Maia's ribs.
Waters lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Waters throws a one two combo.
Waters lands with a right hand.
Waters fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Maia closes the distance and clinches up with Waters, looking for a takedown. Maia pushes Waters against the cage but Waters circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Waters swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Maia.
Horrible takedown attempt by Maia or perhaps it was just good defense by Waters, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rickson Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Waters scores with a hook to the body. Maia takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Waters fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maia, pushing him back against the cage.
Nice body punch from Waters.
Waters lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Maia backwards.
Waters lands a left hand.
Maia has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Waters is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Waters lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Waters throws a punch but it's blocked by Maia.
Oh Maia is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Waters misses with the head strike.
Maia seems to have got his legs back now.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Waters creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Waters dips a shoulder and cracks Maia with a mighty uppercut! Maia falls back against the cage and Waters unloads with a barrage of strikes! Maia is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Waters screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Duncan Waters!
