Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rio Yaj (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akihiko Yamato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rio Yaj!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Akihiko Yamato!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut lands for Yaj. That snapped Yamato's head back.
Yaj has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Rio Yaj has been cut.
Yamato takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
We've been informed that Yamato has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Yaj swinging wildly here.

Yaj closes the distance and clinches.

Yamato's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Yamato walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Yaj checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Yaj is trying hard to land a takedown here. Yamato sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

It looks like Akihiko Yamato has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Yaj lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Yaj drops Yamato with a left and a right! Oh, Yamato is hurt - Yaj dives into side control looking to finish!

Yaj tries to score with some ground and pound. Yamato controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Yaj goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Yamato has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Yaj but great work by Yamato.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Yaj is trying to buck Yamato off.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Yaj's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Yaj has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Yaj is looking for a sweep.
Yaj struggling a bit here.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Yaj tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Yamato wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The fighters are battling for position here. Yaj manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Yaj tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Yamato wanted to stand there but Yaj had control of the position.
Yaj looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yamato is one step ahead there.
Yaj bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Yamato's guard.

Yaj wants to control from the top but Yamato keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Yaj working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Yamato cracks Yaj with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rio Yaj dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Yaj takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Rio Yaj seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yamato is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Yaj looks to score with a jab to the body but Yamato is just out of range.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Yaj counters with a shoot takedown. Yamato fights it but they end up in guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Yamato is on top in guard.

Yamato stays in close to Yaj's body and controls the position.

Yaj's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Yaj looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Yamato is stalling in the full guard.
Yamato has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Yaj is proving hard to escape from.
Yaj has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Yamato has passed into side control.
Yamato is looking to take a break and control but Yaj is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Yaj gets back to half guard.

Yaj tries to kick Yamato off but Yamato keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Yaj manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Yaj throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Yamato counters with a nice leg kick.

and Yamato counters with a thumping low kick.

Yaj with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Yamato to score with a decent uppercut.

Yamato lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

The fight stays on the outside here - Yaj looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Yamato scores with a nice strike.
Yamato throws a hook to the side of Yaj's head but Yaj sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akihiko Yamato showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Yaj or perhaps it was just good defense by Yamato, which made it look bad.

Yaj rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Yamato moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Yaj shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Yamato but Yamato pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rio Yaj. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Yamato throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Yamato lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Yaj is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Yaj throws a right and a left that both miss.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Yamato avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Yamato is looking to slow Yaj down with leg kicks.
Yamato moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Yamato bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Yaj's head backwards.


Yaj is rocked!
Yamato drops Yaj with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Yaj! Yamato dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Akihiko Yamato!
