PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johny Vargas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacque Sirven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johny Vargas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jacque Sirven!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sirven misses with a hook. Vargas ducked under it nicely.
As Sirven looks to move away, Vargas throws a big counter combo but Sirven just gets out of the way.
Sirven misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Sirven moves into range and clinches up with Vargas.

Vargas gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Sirven looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Sirven is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Vargas is aware though and is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sirven is on top in guard.

Sirven won't allow Vargas to get back to his feet.

Sirven drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sirven jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sirven accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Vargas has momentary wrist control but Sirven slips an elbow through the middle.
Vargas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sirven on the ground.

Sirven keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Vargas's head.

Vargas on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Vargas tries to get out of the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Sirven shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Vargas's guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Vargas seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
We've been told by Vargas's head coaches at Mist Of Pandaria that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Vargas was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Sirven uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Sirven might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Sirven looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vargas is fending him off so far but Sirven persists. Nope, Vargas circles away and we're back to standing.

Vargas trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sirven lands a nice short elbow.
Sirven wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vargas keeps working.

Sirven lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Sirven is nestled in close to Vargas, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Sirven thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Vargas is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sirven scores with a couple of nice shots.
Johny Vargas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jacque Sirven is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Jacque Sirven comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sirven has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
