PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mozer Coimbra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Arfadzan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arfadzan is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Pride. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Arfadzan!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arfadzan blocks a head kick by Coimbra.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Arfadzan is defended easily by Coimbra.
Coimbra will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Coimbra looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Arfadzan tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Coimbra manages to move to mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Arfadzan is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Coimbra bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Coimbra decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Coimbra misses with a head kick.
Despite the aggression on Arfadzan's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Coimbra keeps the fight on the outside.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Arfadzan.
No luck for Arfadzan with that takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Coimbra shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Arfadzan's guard.

Arfadzan is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Coimbra presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Coimbra manages to break the clinch.

Arfadzan shoots in looking for a takedown. Coimbra tries to sprawl out of it but Arfadzan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Coimbra manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mozer Coimbra has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Arfadzan.

Coimbra moves into the clinch.
Coimbra wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Arfadzan has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Coimbra after a bit of a struggle.

Coimbra is looking to stand up but Arfadzan isn't so interested in that idea.

Coimbra has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Arfadzan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Coimbra wants to get back to his feet but Arfadzan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Arfadzan advances to half guard.
Arfadzan is pressing down on Coimbra's thigh, looking to free his foot. Coimbra is holding on for now.
Arfadzan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Coimbra keeps working.

Arfadzan seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Coimbra gets back to full guard.
Coimbra is looking to stand up but Arfadzan isn't so interested in that idea.
Arfadzan wants to control from the top but Coimbra keeps moving.
Coimbra throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Coimbra is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Coimbra moves into the clinch.

Coimbra decides to pull guard.
Coimbra keeping moving, preventing Arfadzan from controlling successfully.
Arfadzan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Coimbra swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

and Arfadzan counters with a crisp one two that drops Coimbra! Arfadzan thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Coimbra to his feet! Coimbra is in big trouble!
Coimbra lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Arfadzan circles away quickly and effectively.
Nice takedown defense from Coimbra. No joy for Arfadzan on that attempt.

Arfadzan looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.

Arfadzan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Arfadzan wants to control but Coimbra is keeping him busy.
Arfadzan just content to control the position.

Arfadzan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Coimbra knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Arfadzan in particular looking to stall.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Coimbra tries to kick Arfadzan off but Arfadzan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Coimbra is looking to escape.

Arfadzan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Coimbra sees it coming and defends easily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Coimbra drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Arfadzan explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

And that's the end of the fight!
Antonio Arfadzan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Coimbra has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
