PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Robbie Lawler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy McLarnin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jimmy McLarnin told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robbie Lawler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimmy McLarnin!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lawler throws a leg kick
and McLarnin connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

McLarnin cracks Lawler with a big right hand and Lawler goes down!


Lawler is rocked!
Lawler is adopting a defensive guard.
Oh Lawler is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lawler knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McLarnin on the ground.
McLarnin stands and throws Lawler's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Lawler seems to have got his legs back now.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

McLarnin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Lawler has escaped the position, nice work there.
McLarnin is staying tight to Lawler's torso, preventing him from escaping.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lawler is looking to regain half guard here but McLarnin keeps moving and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lawler struggling a bit here.
A lull in the action here as McLarnin stalls from top position.
It looks like McLarnin might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Lawler looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Lawler looking for a sweep but McLarnin has passed into full mount! Oh no!
McLarnin sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
McLarnin lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
McLarnin avoids the attempt from Lawler to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lawler is looking to improve his position but McLarnin isn't that keen on the idea.
McLarnin lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Lawler hang on?
McLarnin content just to control the position here.
McLarnin with shots to the head and body - Lawler looks very uncomfortable down there.
Lawler tries to hold on but McLarnin postures up.
McLarnin landing strikes, looking to finish!

McLarnin is working for a guillotine from mount but Lawler frees his head quite easily.
McLarnin controlling his opponent.
Lawler is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
McLarnin sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
McLarnin is continuing to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy McLarnin dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


McLarnin staying out of range there.
A nice side step and McLarnin releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Lawler misses with a telegraphed body shot
and McLarnin counters with a lovely straight right hand!
McLarnin cracks Lawler with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
A big left from Lawler misses.
Lawler misses with a shot to the body
and McLarnin scores with a counter punch that sends Lawler to the canvas! McLarnin smells blood - he's punishing Lawler with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Lawler has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimmy McLarnin!
