PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Erwin Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Squire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Erwin Torres has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Erwin Torres!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ryan Squire!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Torres looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Squire looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Torres is stalling in the full guard.
Squire looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Torres wants to get up but he can't break Squire's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Torres is in close to Squire's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Squire bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Torres's guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Squire wants to control from the top but Torres keeps moving.

Squire drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Torres dives on top into guard.

Torres postures up and lands a big shot to Squire's brow.

Squire has his foot on Torres's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Torres works his way back into a safe position though.

Torres really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Torres cracks Squire with a solid left hand.

Torres is looking to work some ground and pound but Squire has wrist control.
Torres will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Torres accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Squire is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Squire is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Torres defends well.
Torres is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Torres makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Torres is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Squire is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Squire has a closed guard, preventing Torres from standing up.
Torres throws a big elbow that misses.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Squire wants to get back to his feet but Torres is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Squire looking for a guillotine here but Torres defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Squire is trying to control the position but Torres postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Torres shoots in and bounces Squire off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Torres tries for a takedown but Squire sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Squire has taken the fight to the clinch.

Squire decides to pull guard.

Squire looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Torres lands a couple of digs.
Torres has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Torres postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Squire preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Squire utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Squire had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Torres defends it easily.
Squire wants to get back to his feet but Torres passes into half guard.

Squire can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Torres controls the pace.
Torres makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Torres seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Torres keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Squire's head.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Torres lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Torres slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Torres's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Torres drives through with a takedown into Squire's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Torres's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Squire utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Squire looking for a sweep. Not yet Squire, not yet.
Squire trying to control the position.
Torres stands up over Squire, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Torres is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Erwin Torres overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Squire is trying to keep Torres in close.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Squire wants to control but Torres passes easily into half guard.

Torres seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Squire for as long as he can get away with.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Erwin Torres dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Squire moves out of range of the body kick from Torres.
Torres is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Squire can do to turn this around?

Squire instigates a clinch.

Squire gets control of Torres's arms and successfully pulls guard. Squire will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Torres working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Squire's head.

Torres is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Squire is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Squire has escaped and now he's on top!

Squire gets to his feet - Torres follows without any prompting.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Torres tries to circle away but Squire has him pinned against the cage.

Torres manages to break the clinch.

Squire gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Squire decides to pull guard.
Squire is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Torres won't allow Squire to get back to his feet.
Squire is trying to control the position but Torres postures up.
Squire seems keen to control Torres's posture.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Torres postures up and lands a big shot to Squire's brow.
Squire not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Torres landing with the ground and pound.
Torres engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Torres closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Squire manages to work his way to half guard, despite Torres's best efforts.
Torres is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Squire keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Torres keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Squire is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Ryan Squire has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Erwin Torres is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

I think Torres has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
