PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hung Kerr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Sercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hung Kerr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Simon Sercer!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kerr closes the distance and clinches.
Sercer is trying to drag Kerr to the mat but Kerr just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Kerr breaks from the clinch.
Sercer avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Kerr pushes Sercer up against the cage in a clinch.
Kerr can't break the clinch.

Kerr breaks from the clinch.
Kerr rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sercer moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Sercer tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kerr defends well and Sercer ends up having to push Kerr into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sercer throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Kerr tries to clinch but Sercer moves out of range.

and Kerr counters with a shoot takedown. Sercer fights it but they end up in guard.
Hung Kerr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Simon Sercer.
Sercer wants to sweep here but Kerr controlling him for the moment.

Kerr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sercer works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Kerr has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Sercer looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Kerr has picked Sercer up and slammed him! Sercer can't keep hold of the triangle and Kerr manages to pass to side control!
Sercer is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Kerr asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Sercer tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Kerr wants to control but Sercer is keeping him busy.

Sercer can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kerr is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sercer will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Kerr really is a fat lump.
Kerr wants to control but Sercer is keeping him busy.
Sercer tries to buck Kerr off but Kerr is having none of it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Kerr moves into range and clinches up with Sercer.

Sercer breaks the clinch.
Kerr fails to land with a series of punches.
Sercer wants to counter with a clinch but Kerr pushes him away.

Sercer pulls guard successfully.
Sercer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kerr's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Sercer wants to stand up but Kerr is controlling him.
Kerr working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sercer tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kerr defends well and Sercer ends up having to push Kerr into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Kerr slaps away a takedown attempt from Sercer, before circling back to the center of the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kerr is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sercer throws a counter combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sercer gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Kerr.
Sercer takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Kerr takes the fight into the clinch.
Kerr connects with a nasty looking knee right to Sercer's face.

Kerr manages to break the clinch.
No luck for Sercer with that takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sercer shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Kerr eats them both and turns towards Sercer to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Sercer throws a combination that misses
and Kerr counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sercer will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Sercer drives through and clinches with Kerr against the cage.
A left hand lands to the body for Sercer.
Kerr is trying to break free.

Kerr breaks the clinch.

Sercer moves into range and clinches up with Kerr.

Sercer tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kerr fails in his attempt to clinch.
Sercer shoots in and drives through. Kerr sprawls well.
Sercer keeps the fight on the outside.

Sercer is trying to pull guard but Kerr has him pressed against the cage.
Hung Kerr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Simon Sercer.

Kerr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kerr tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sercer swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sercer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kerr as he avoids it easily.
Kerr misses with a takedown attempt - Sercer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sercer swings and misses with a hook to the body.
No luck for Sercer with that takedown attempt.
Sercer is breathing heavily.

Kerr shoots in and bounces Sercer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Sercer controls Kerr momentarily but Kerr frees himself.
Kerr content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Kerr is in close to Sercer's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Sercer controls Kerr momentarily but Kerr frees himself.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sercer has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Sercer is trying to keep Kerr in close.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sercer circles away from the clinch attempt.

Kerr closes the distance and pushes Sercer back into the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kerr wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Kerr stalling the fight.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Sercer keeps control of Kerr as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hung Kerr dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Kerr tries for a takedown but Sercer sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Sercer shoots in but no luck this time.
Kerr appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Kerr feints and as Sercer raises his hands in defense, Kerr changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Sercer manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Kerr is trying to break free.
Kerr wants to get back to striking at distance but Sercer won't allow it.
Kerr is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Sercer lands a takedown into guard.

Kerr has his feet on Sercer's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kerr wants to clinch.
Sercer changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Kerr gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hung Kerr overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kerr scores with a nice shot.
Sercer tries to stand but Kerr is controlling from the bottom.
Sercer trying to control the position from guard on top but Kerr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kerr is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sercer wants to get back to full guard.
Sercer wants to control but Kerr is keeping busy.
Kerr is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sercer can do to turn this around?
Sercer is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Kerr is staying active.

Kerr has his foot on Sercer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sercer works his way back into a safe position though.
Kerr thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

I would just about give that final round to Simon Sercer.
Well Kerr has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
