PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Karol Cropp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pablo Escobar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Escobar is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Big Pun - Brave in The Heart. Pablo Escobar has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 45 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karol Cropp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pablo Escobar!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cropp misses with a jab, cross combination.
Escobar pushes Cropp away with a front kick.
Escobar waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Cropp.
Escobar ducks under a wild hook from Cropp.
Escobar throws a combination. Cropp tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Cropp throws a poor cross that misses
and Escobar counters with a nice leg kick.
Escobar explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Escobar fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Cropp on the side of the head.
Escobar throws an overhand right that lands on Cropp's shoulder, as Cropp tries to avoid the shot.
Cropp throwing a counter right hand but Escobar manages to avoid it.
Cropp staying out of range there.
Escobar scores with a sloppy right hand. Cropp should have avoided that one.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Escobar cracks Cropp with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Cropp misses with a two punch combination.

Escobar takes the fight into the clinch.
Escobar tries to work over Cropp's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Cropp has hold of one of Escobar's legs. Escobar is fighting the takedown attempt but Cropp gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Cropp is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Escobar working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cropp doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cropp manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've been hearing good reports from Cropp's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Cropp throws a big right hand that misses.

Cropp got a little sloppy there for a moment and Escobar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cropp has managed to get both his arms back between Escobar's legs - danger averted.

Escobar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Escobar looking for a guillotine here but Cropp defends easily.
Escobar lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Cropp wants to sweep here but Escobar controlling him for the moment.
Cropp will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cropp lands a good elbow from the bottom.
Escobar pushes down on Cropp's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Escobar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cropp does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cropp won't allow Escobar to pass to mount.
Escobar not doing much here.
Cropp is looking for a sweep. Escobar is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cropp is defending against the submission attempts here by Escobar.
Escobar wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cropp keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cropp is looking to improve his position.
Cropp pushes Escobar off looking to stand but Escobar dives back in and keeps control.
Escobar tries to pass the half guard into mount. Cropp knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Escobar wants to stand up but Cropp has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Escobar tries to pass to full mount but Cropp defends it.
Escobar works his way into side control.
Cropp tries to improve position but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cropp stops Escobar from passing to mount.
Cropp tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cropp tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Escobar presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Cropp is in all sorts of trouble here.
Cropp tries to lock up and control but Escobar gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Escobar blocks Cropp's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Escobar fails to take his opponent's back.
Cropp tries to reverse the position but Escobar maintains control.
Escobar trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Escobar moves to take his opponent's back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pablo Escobar dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A jab from Escobar does it's job there.
Cropp scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Cropp fails with a takedown attempt.
Cropp takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Escobar scores with a kick to the body.

Oooooh!!! Cropp has knocked Escobar down with a huge combo! Cropp steps away and waves a wobbly Escobar back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Escobar is rocked!


It looks like Pablo Escobar has been cut.
Karol Cropp is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cropp measures up his opponent and throws a superman punch that connects to the jaw! Down goes Escobar! The ref steps in, and that's the ball game folks!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Karol Cropp!

Pablo Escobar was interviewed post fight and said 'Stay classy!'.
