PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between August Robles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chip Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Ryan's choice of entrance music: Lose Yourself. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, August Robles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chip Ryan!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ryan moves into range and clinches up with Robles.
Robles is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Robles taking a breather.

Robles drags the fight down to the ground.
Robles working a defensive guard here.
Ryan sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Robles's guard.
Robles wants to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ryan perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Ryan closes the distance and clinches.
Robles really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Robles lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Ryan is controlling Robles's trapped leg to prevent Robles from advancing to side control.
Robles tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Ryan holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Robles seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Robles wants to take a breather but Ryan is having none of it.
Ryan preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Ryan looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Robles stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Ryan to get to his feet.

Ryan clinches.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Robles.

Ryan works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Robles controls Ryan momentarily but Ryan frees himself.

Robles had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ryan defends it easily.
Robles will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ryan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Ryan works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ryan controlling the pace.
Ryan's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Ryan wants to work for an arm triangle but Robles is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Robles trying to control but Ryan postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ryan drives through with a takedown into Robles's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chip Ryan dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Ryan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Ryan wants to work for an arm triangle but Robles is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ryan perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
More stalling from Ryan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Robles tries to get to full guard but Ryan has control of the leg.

Ryan slows the pace down in half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ryan prevents Robles from improving his position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Ryan dives in and scores a takedown into Robles's guard.

Ryan content to stall in guard here.
Robles is trying to control the position but Ryan postures up.
Ryan stays in close to Robles's body and controls the position.
Ryan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Ryan clinches with his opponent.

Ryan manages to pull guard.
Ryan has his hands on Robles's head, controlling the position.

Robles stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Robles gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ryan to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ryan prevents Robles from getting back to his feet.

Ryan stands and steps away. Robles gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Ryan gets a double leg takedown into Robles's guard.
Ryan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Robles not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chip Ryan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Robles's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!



Robles tries to keep at a distance but Ryan has taken the fight into the clinch.
Robles fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Ryan on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Ryan tightens his grip and picks Robles up, before dumping him to the ground. Robles manages to land in guard.
Ryan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Chip Ryan has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ryan sitting in guard, not really doing much.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Ryan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ryan throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Robles tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ryan is in Robles's guard.
Ryan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Ryan tries to free his leg and advance position but Robles is retaining full guard.

Ryan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ryan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Robles not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ryan controls from within his opponent's guard.
Robles is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ryan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Robles is looking for a sweep. Ryan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Ryan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Robles defends it well.
Robles has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ryan is working away from the top position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chip Ryan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ryan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
