PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Uri Haber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JJ Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Linkin Park - In the End. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Uri Haber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, JJ Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Ivan Kurochkin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Haber tries to clinch but Thomas moves out of range.
Thomas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Haber connects with the punch.
Haber tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Thomas manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Haber moves in looking to clinch but Thomas pushes him off.
Thomas fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Haber just misses with a punch to the body.
Haber looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Haber gets caught flat footed, as Thomas shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Thomas postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Haber is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Thomas, into his guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Haber wants to control from the top but Thomas keeps moving.

Haber passes into half guard.

Haber is working for a kimura but Thomas is defending it quite comfortably.
Thomas wants to get back to full guard but Haber has passed into side control.

Haber wants to take a breather but Thomas manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Haber.

That was a close round but I would say that Uri Haber will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Haber throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Haber's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Thomas connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Haber scrambles back to his feet.

Thomas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Thomas goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Haber rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Thomas's guard! Nice work there by Haber!

Thomas looking for subs off his back but Haber has passed one foot through into half guard.
Haber wants to pass to mount but Thomas is defending the position.
Haber working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Haber takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Haber is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Thomas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Haber.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Haber connects with a nice short shot to Thomas's temple.
Thomas is looking for a sweep. Haber is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Haber wants to pass the guard but Thomas is defending well.
Haber content to control rather than advance.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Haber lands a nice short elbow.

Haber is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Uri Haber dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Haber tries to score a power double leg takedown but Thomas sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Haber somewhat.

Haber is trying to control Thomas's posture but Thomas avoids it.
Haber gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Thomas tries to pass the half guard into mount. Haber knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thomas can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Haber is looking to escape.
Haber bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Uri Haber overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Haber not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Uri Haber is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Thomas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

JJ Thomas comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Haber has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
