The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left and a right from De Jong both land. Nice combination.

It looks like Lavern Meyers has been cut.
Meyers uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from De Jong.
De Jong tries to land a front kick but Meyers steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
De Jong fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Meyers.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Meyers drops back looking for a leg! De Jong is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and De Jong manages to kick Meyers off! Meyers jumps back into De Jong's guard.

Meyers gets to his feet - De Jong follows without any prompting.

and Meyers counters by clinching up.
Meyers is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables De Jong to keep the fight standing.

Meyers has clasped his hands together around De Jong's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
De Jong wants to get back to his feet but Meyers drags him back down.

Meyers is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. De Jong looks calm but he's in trouble here. Meyers gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. De Jong is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Meyers lets go of the hold and De Jong can pop his arm back in it's socket.
