PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Julius Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaron Jahner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Julius Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jaron Jahner!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jahner fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Evans, pushing him back against the cage.

Evans turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Evans manages to end up in side control.

Jahner throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Jahner closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jahner lands in his opponent's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jahner wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving.
Evans pulls Jahner in close to prevent any damage.

Evans working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jahner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jahner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jahner postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Evans wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Evans might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Evans's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Jahner thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Evans has his hands on Jahner's head, controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Evans drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Jahner is trying to control Evans's posture but Evans avoids it.

Jahner is looking for a sweep.
Jahner is looking to get back to his feet here but Evans is keeping cool and he's managed to take Jahner's back.
Evans keeps control of the position as Jahner tries to break free.
Jahner wants to get back to his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jahner rolls, trying to escape but Evans keeps control of the position.
Evans could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Jahner takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Evans lands an elbow to the side of the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jaron Jahner will probably get the nod.

Evans takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Jahner closes the distance and clinches.
Evans on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Evans breaks the clinch.

Jahner closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Evans quickly recovers to half guard.

Evans has one foot on Jahner's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Julius Evans is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Evans shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Evans changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jahner tries to avoid it but Evans manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jahner to the ground. Jahner escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jahner throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Evans fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Julius Evans. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Jahner counters with a right hand to the body.
Jahner stuffs the takedown attempt from Evans. Evans gets slowly back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jahner has managed to clinch.
Jahner wants to break the clinch but can't.
Jahner has had enough of the clinch but Evans keeps him there for the moment.

Evans's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jaron Jahner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jahner fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
As Jahner looks to move away, Evans throws a big counter combo but Jahner just gets out of the way.
Jahner shoots in looking for a takedown. Evans tries to sprawl out of it but Jahner keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Evans manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jahner stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jahner wants it to stay on the feet.

Jahner moves into the clinch.

Evans pulls Jahner into guard.

Evans looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jahner trying to control the position from guard on top but Evans is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Evans is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jahner defends well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Evans is working an open guard so Jahner takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Jahner darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Evans controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Evans is staying active underneath Jahner, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jaron Jahner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Jahner rushes Evans and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Jahner jumps guard but Evans turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Evans tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jahner just stands there and leans against the cage.

Jahner tightens his grip and picks Evans up, before dumping him to the ground. Evans manages to land in guard.
Evans is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Jaron Jahner has got the better of the ground game so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Evans has Jahner pulled in close to control his posture.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Evans darts in and clinches Jahner up against the cage.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Jahner manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Evans is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Jahner is defending well.
Jahner tries to break free but Evans pushes him back against the cage.

Jahner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Evans has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jahner has managed to get both his arms back between Evans's legs - danger averted.

Jahner wants to get up but he can't break Evans's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Julius Evans has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jaron Jahner is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Jahner darts in looking for a takedown but Evans gets double underhooks and turns Jahner into the cage.

I would just about give that final round to Jaron Jahner.
Well Jahner has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
