Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carmelo Maxwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Guerra!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Paulo Santos and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guerra fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Guerra scores with a crisp jab that stopped Maxwell in his tracks.

Guerra throws a lazy uppercut

and Maxwell holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Maxwell makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Maxwell decides to pull guard.
Guerra should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Maxwell looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Guerra drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Maxwell dives on top into guard.

Guerra wants to stand and escape but Maxwell is having none of it.

Maxwell drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Maxwell jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Maxwell postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Guerra is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Maxwell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Guerra is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Maxwell cracks Guerra with a solid left hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Guerra has momentary wrist control but Maxwell slips an elbow through the middle.
Maxwell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Maxwell stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Maxwell dodges the punch combination from Guerra.
Guerra rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Maxwell moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Maxwell appears to be looking for a big counter.
Maxwell on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Guerra throws a right hand that Maxwell ducks under and follows up with a left that Maxwell also avoids with ease.
Guerra misses with a looping right.
Guerra misses with a jab, cross combination.
Maxwell misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Maxwell darts in and clinches Guerra up against the cage.

Guerra has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Maxwell uses from the top position.

We've been informed that Guerra has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Maxwell decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Guerra will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Guerra connects with a looping right hand.


Maxwell is rocked!
Guerra connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Maxwell covering up! Guerra comes in with a big uppercut and Maxwell goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Jose Guerra!
