Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Pennington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hasan Sonmez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hasan Sonmez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pennington stuffs the takedown attempt from Sonmez . Sonmez gets slowly back to his feet.

and Pennington counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Sonmez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

and Pennington counters by clinching up.

Pennington gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Sonmez regains guard.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Sonmez lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Pennington could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Pennington wants to sweep but no luck.

Pennington is not content to let Sonmez control the position.

Pennington remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
