PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Yamada Araujo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexandre Reulas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yamada Araujo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alexandre Reulas!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Araujo throws a combination that misses

and Reulas counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Araujo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Reulas is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Araujo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Reulas is one step ahead there.

Reulas got a little sloppy there for a moment and Araujo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Reulas has managed to get both his arms back between Araujo's legs - danger averted.
Reulas tries to free his leg and advance position but Araujo is retaining full guard.
Reulas is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reulas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Araujo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Araujo has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Reulas has passed into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reulas takes a little break here. Araujo wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Reulas tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Reulas has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Reulas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Araujo keeps working.
Reulas controls the position from side control.
Araujo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Reulas on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Reulas wants to control but Araujo is keeping him busy.
Reulas advances to mount.
Araujo is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Reulas looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Araujo gets back to half guard.

Reulas is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Araujo defends it well.
Reulas controlling the action here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Araujo looks like he's trying to stand up.
Reulas is thwarting Araujo's attempts to control the position.

Reulas is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Araujo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Reulas pulls his head out easily.
Araujo wants to get back to full guard.

Reulas is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Araujo is not content to let Reulas control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Araujo won't allow Reulas to pass to mount.

Reulas seems to be working for a kimura but Araujo defends the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexandre Reulas dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Araujo throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Reulas counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Reulas.
Reulas slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Alexandre Reulas has got the better of the ground game so far.
Reulas forces his way into half guard.
Araujo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Araujo.
Araujo keeping moving, preventing Reulas from controlling successfully.
Araujo working a defensive guard but Reulas manages to pass into side control anyway.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reulas wants to control but Araujo is keeping him busy.
Araujo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Araujo is trying to control Reulas's posture but Reulas avoids it.

Reulas is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Araujo has escaped the position, nice work there.
Reulas wants to control but Araujo is keeping him busy.
Araujo is looking for a sweep.
Reulas is looking to take a break and control but Araujo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Reulas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Araujo gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Araujo wants to control but Reulas is having none of it.
Reulas tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Araujo tries to lock up and control but Reulas gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Araujo tries to control Reulas's body but Reulas pushes him off. Araujo squirms to his side and now Reulas has his back!
Reulas controlling the position well here. Araujo rolled but Reulas kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Reulas looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Araujo taps!
