PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Max Roberts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrej Madai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roberts's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Break Stuff. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Max Roberts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andrej Madai!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, William Gold and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Madai moves in looking to clinch but Roberts pushes him off.
Madai closes this distance looking for a takedown but Roberts circles away.
Roberts changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Madai goes for a double leg but Roberts avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Roberts continues to drive forward.
Madai blocks a head kick by Roberts.

Madai decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Roberts is trying to get back to full guard.
Roberts is trying to control but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Madai shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Roberts drops down looking for a counter takedown but Madai sprawls and moves away.
Madai shoots in for a double leg but Roberts sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Madai fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Roberts shoots in looking for a takedown. Madai tries to sprawl out of it but Roberts keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Madai manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Madai dives in and grabs Roberts's left leg, looking for a takedown. Roberts pushes down on Madai's head and hops out.

Madai looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Roberts is not content to let Madai control the position.

Madai is looking to take a break and control but Roberts is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round but I would say that Max Roberts will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Madai tries to close the distance and clinch up but Roberts swats him away and circles back towards the center.

As Madai tries to get set, Roberts tries to push him back and clinch up but Madai manages to avoid the attempt.

Andrej Madai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

It looked like Roberts was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Madai.

Madai tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Madai throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Roberts's waist but Roberts gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Madai off to one side.

Madai is trying hard to land a takedown here. Roberts sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

and Roberts cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Roberts dodges the punch combination from Madai.
Roberts lands a nice shot to the body.
Both fighters circling a little - Roberts finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Roberts closes the distance and clinches.

Madai jumps guard but Roberts turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Madai is looking to break free of the clinch but Roberts has double underhooks.
Roberts looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Roberts turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Madai looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Madai tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Roberts manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roberts working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Roberts has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Madai pushes a forearm under Roberts's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Roberts is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Max Roberts spoke after the fight, saying 'I'm a much better fighter than what you seen here, TRUST ME, ill be better next time.'.
