PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Nevsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ali Aliev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aliev has chosen Lezginka as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Ali Aliev is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Nevsky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ali Aliev!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aliev is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nevsky sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Nevsky is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Aliev throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Nevsky counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Aliev looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
A jab from Nevsky finds it's way through Aliev's defenses.
Nevsky lands a lovely overhand right.
Nevsky misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Aliev throws a counter combo.
Nevsky slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Aliev swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Nevsky cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Aliev shoots in and bounces Nevsky off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nevsky bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Aliev's guard.

Nevsky prevents Aliev from getting back to his feet.
Nevsky stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Aliev swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nevsky engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Aliev is trying to maintain the position but Nevsky is very close to passing his half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nevsky is taking a breather. Aliev says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Nevsky's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Nevsky in particular looking to stall.
Nevsky wants to stand up but Aliev has a hold of him and won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Ali Aliev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Aliev changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nevsky tries to avoid it but Aliev manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nevsky to the ground. Nevsky escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Aliev fails to land the takedown.
Alexander Nevsky has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ali Aliev.

Nevsky has Aliev pushed against the cage.

It looks like Ali Aliev has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Aliev takes a knee to the side of the body.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Nevsky has Aliev pushed against the cage.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Nevsky gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Nevsky lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Aliev is rocked!
Aliev is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Nevsky pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Aliev is still on wobbly legs! Can Nevsky finish him?
Nevsky is stalling here.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Nevsky creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Nevsky creates a bit of space for himself and rocks Aliev with a big uppercut! Aliev tries to clinch up but Nevsky pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Aliev to the mat! Aliev covers up and Nevsky unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Alexander Nevsky!
Ali Aliev was interviewed post fight and said 'Thanks all fans for support! Next time I'll be better, thanks God!'.
