PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jermaine Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liam McGuiness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGuiness has chosen The Boys are Back by Dropkick Murphys as his entrance music. Liam McGuiness told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Jermaine Wright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 20 - 1, fighting out of London, Liam McGuiness!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wright throws a shot to the body.
McGuiness misses with the body kick

and Wright counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wright connects with a couple of short punches.
Wright content to stall in guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wright accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Wright stands and throws McGuiness's legs to the side, diving into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The ground and pound from Wright seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Wright has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wright in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

McGuiness is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
You can see the frustration on McGuiness's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Wright controlling the position from side mount.

Wright cracks McGuiness with a big right hand but McGuiness just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
McGuiness is looking for a sweep.
McGuiness takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Wright is looking to take a break and control but McGuiness is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
McGuiness trying to remain calm as Wright controls from the top position.

Check out the look on Wright's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
McGuiness can't do much from the bottom here.
Wright looks up at the clock and then as McGuiness takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Wright smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wright in side control, throwing shots but McGuiness defends.
McGuiness tries to bench press Wright off him but Wright keeps the position.
Wright working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
McGuiness is not content to let Wright control the position.
Wright looking to punish the body of his opponent here but McGuiness is avoiding damage well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wright sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but McGuiness is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Wright comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Wright dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Wright lands a big head kick that sends McGuiness tumbling to the mat! Wright takes a step backwards and waves McGuiness back to his feet - he wants the finish!


McGuiness is rocked!


It looks like Liam McGuiness has been cut.
McGuiness circles to his right, straight into a beautiful hook by Wright. McGuiness falls face first into the canvas - great knockout victory for Wright!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jermaine Wright!
An out of breath Jermaine Wright thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
