PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yoko Honda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoko Honda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brock Lesnar!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Sano and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Honda shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lesnar as he jumps to the side.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Honda.
Honda stuffs the takedown.
Honda shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yoko Honda. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Honda darts in looking for a takedown but Lesnar gets double underhooks and turns Honda into the ropes.

Honda gets the takedown into side control.
Lesnar told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Honda moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Lesnar struggling a bit here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A lull in the action here as Honda stalls from top position.

Lesnar is looking to reverse the position.

Honda is looking to take a break and control but Lesnar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Honda wants to take a breather but Lesnar manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Honda.
Honda trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Honda controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Honda stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lesnar swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Honda trying to control the position from guard on top but Lesnar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Honda not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Honda won't allow Lesnar to sweep him here.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Honda shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Lesnar wants to improve his position but Honda is controlling well.
Honda throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Honda is nestled in close to Lesnar, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Honda is keen to just control but Lesnar is a slippery customer.

Lesnar is trying to maintain the position but Honda is very close to passing his half guard.

It looks like Brock Lesnar has been cut.
Lesnar is trying to control but Honda passes into side control!
Honda scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Lesnar to see if he's OK.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Honda is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lesnar knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ground and pound from Honda seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Lesnar scores with a takedown into Honda's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Honda is on top in guard.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Honda sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lesnar's guard.
Honda seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Honda missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lesnar tries to roll over but Honda keeps him under control.
Honda works his way into full mount!

Honda content just to control the position here.

That has opened up Brock Lesnar's cut even more.
Lesnar sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Lesnar is staying active underneath Honda, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Honda throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Lesnar to regain full guard.
Honda working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.


The cut above Brock Lesnar's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Brock Lesnar's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Yoko Honda!
