Coming up we have a featherweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Vincent Oketch and Dado Mata. The crowd seem to be enjoying Mata's choice of entrance music: 和楽器バンド / 千本桜. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Vincent Oketch! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 6 losses; Dado Mata!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Yves DeLean.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Oketch takes the fight into the clinch.
Oketch goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mata prevents it.
Oketch has Mata pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Mata manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Oketch has hold of one of Mata's legs. Mata is fighting the takedown attempt but Oketch gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mata is on top in guard.

Mata is looking to pass into half guard but Oketch pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Oketch is in guard.

Mata has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Oketch can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mata has an active guard here but Oketch has managed to pass into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mata tries to get to full guard but Oketch has control of the leg.

Mata has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Mata controls Oketch momentarily but Oketch frees himself.

Mata isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Oketch stacks Mata on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Oketch!

Oketch gets to mount! Mata was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Mata is trying to escape the mount.
Mata reaches up to try and control the position but Oketch seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Mata rolls and tries to escape and now Oketch has his back!

Oketch is trying to stick to Mata's back but Mata is turning into Oketch. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Oketch's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Mata.

Oketch looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mata puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Mata content to control rather than advance.
Oketch wants to get back to full guard.
Oketch wants to control but Mata is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Mata wants to pass to mount but Oketch is defending the position.
Mata is trying to control. Oketch wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Oketch is looking to improve his position.
Mata is pressing down on Oketch's thigh, looking to free his foot. Oketch is holding on for now.

Mata is working for a kimura but Oketch is defending it quite comfortably.

Mata is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Oketch sees it coming and defends easily.

Mata works his foot free and advances to mount.

Mata is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Oketch wants to improve his position but instead Mata has moved into half guard.
Oketch gets back to full guard.
Mata trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Mata drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Oketch manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mata has Oketch in his guard.

Mata is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mata seems to be working for a kimura but Oketch defends the submission attempt.

Mata is working for an americana but Oketch has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Mata was thinking about the submission.

Oketch lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Oketch has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Mata looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Oketch stays in close to Mata's body and controls the position.

Mata has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Oketch is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Mata.

Oketch tries to move to mount but Mata blocks the move with his legs.
Oketch wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mata keeps working.

Oketch is looking to take a break and control but Mata is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mata is trying to work for a sweep but Oketch has mounted him!

Mata sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Mata has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Mata controls Oketch momentarily but Oketch frees himself.

Mata tries to roll over but Oketch keeps him under control.
Mata keeps trying to improve his position.

Oketch slows the pace down in half guard.
Mata is not content to let Oketch control the position.
Oketch tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mata knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Mata wants to sweep but no luck.

Oketch seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Oketch slips nicely into half guard.
Oketch uses his free foot to push down on Mata's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mata.

Oketch slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Mata wants to escape the position.

Oketch is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Mata defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Oketch wants to control but Mata is keeping busy.
Mata tries to break free.
Mata wants to control his opponent's hands but Oketch gets his hands free.
I really don't envy Mata right now.

Oketch is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Mata is defending well though. Oketch let's go of the attempt for now.
Mata wants to escape the position.

Mata is still trying to improve position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Oketch is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Mata won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Oketch off his unconscious opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 14:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Vincent Oketch!
