PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sprint Asap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paddy Bateman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sprint Asap!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paddy Bateman!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, David Schapiro and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bateman takes a jab right on the kisser.
Asap throws a jab when Bateman was well out of range.

Bateman shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Asap napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Asap has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Bateman is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Asap is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Bateman wants to control but Asap is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Asap misses with a hook from the clinch.
Asap swings wildly with an uppercut but Bateman uses good head movement to avoid it.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Asap.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sprint Asap dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Bateman takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Asap tries to clinch there but Bateman circles away.

Bateman closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Asap did well to prevent Bateman getting side control.

Bateman is working for a submission of some sort.
Bateman moves nicely into side control.
Bateman wants to control but Asap is keeping him busy.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Asap is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but Bateman has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Asap is working to get back to half guard.

Bateman moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Asap has worked his arm free - good work by Asap!

Bateman goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Asap rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Bateman's guard! Nice work there by Asap!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Bateman is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Asap is aware though and is defending well.

Paddy Bateman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Asap has Bateman up against the ropes in a clinch.
Bateman is looking to control Asap's arms but Asap gets an underhook and turns him. Now Bateman has his back to the ropes.
Bateman misses with a punch to the body.
Asap is trying to stall.
Bateman makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bateman wants the takedown. Asap is fighting it off but Bateman persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Asap's guard against the ropes.
Bateman looking to sit in guard and control but Asap gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Asap decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bateman, up you get!

Bateman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Asap misses with a straight left.
Bateman works the jab nicely.
Asap looks to throw the jab but Bateman is out of range.

Asap throws the left hand but Bateman avoids the punch easily.

Bateman shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bateman is working for a submission of some sort.

Bateman looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Asap is trying to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Asap tries to roll over but Bateman keeps him under control.

Bateman seems to be looking for submissions.
Bateman wants to take a breather but Asap is having none of it.
Asap tries to kick Bateman off but Bateman keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Asap is refusing to be controlled, as Bateman sits in half guard.
Bateman is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Asap takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Bateman throws a hook to the side of Asap's head but Asap sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Bateman tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Asap defends well and Bateman ends up having to push Asap into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Sprint Asap seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bateman slips under a jab.
Bateman swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Asap tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Bateman paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Bateman is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Asap's half guard.

Bateman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Asap defends it well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paddy Bateman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bateman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
