PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dion Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hari Kunwar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kunwar comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Kills - Future Starts Slow kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dion Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hari Kunwar!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws a sloppy head kick

and Kunwar counters with a shoot takedown. Jones fights it but they end up in guard.
Kunwar wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Kunwar slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kunwar trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Kunwar is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Jones feints and then cracks Kunwar's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kunwar down.

Kunwar swats away the attempt to clinch by Jones.
A slow jab from Jones misses its intended target.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Kunwar seems to be looking for submissions.
Kunwar throwing shots but Jones is blocking nicely.
Jones is pressing down on Kunwar's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Kunwar looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.
Jones slaps away a takedown attempt from Kunwar, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Kunwar closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jones to the mat! Jones manages to get full guard.
Jones pulls Kunwar in to control the position.
Kunwar throws an elbow that misses. Jones uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kunwar's guard. Nice move by Jones!

Kunwar has his foot on Jones's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jones works his way back into a safe position though.

Kunwar working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kunwar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jones has managed to get both his arms back between Kunwar's legs - danger averted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dion Jones will probably get the nod.

Kunwar tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kunwar has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kunwar is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jones has escaped the position, nice work there.
Jones is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kunwar off and has taken his back!
Kunwar is trying to break free.
Jones slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Jones has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Kunwar looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
I really don't envy Kunwar right now.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dion Jones.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
