The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taylor lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Taylor scores with a jab.
A head kick from Taylor lands but Mendez takes it in his stride.
Mendez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Taylor but Taylor pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Taylor throws out a counter right but Mendez avoids it with no problem.
Taylor throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Taylor feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Mendez's calf.
Taylor scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Mendez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mendez has hold of Taylor's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Taylor seems comfortable defending it but Mendez has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Taylor is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Taylor is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Mendez couldn't care less - he's delighted!
