PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Parasenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Parasenko!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parasenko defending well as Johnson loads up on a big left hand.
A big left from Johnson misses.
Parasenko blocks a head kick by Johnson.
Johnson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Johnson misses with a leg kick

and Parasenko counters with a single leg into guard. Johnson didn't expect that.
Parasenko stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson is trying to keep Parasenko in close.
Parasenko stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Johnson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Parasenko decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Parasenko takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Parasenko's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Parasenko is looking to take a break and control but Johnson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Parasenko lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Parasenko is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
John Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circling - Johnson throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Parasenko lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Johnson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Johnson misses with a series of wild punches.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Parasenko throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Parasenko is in Johnson's guard.

Parasenko misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Nice body kick there by Johnson.
Parasenko avoids the head kick by Johnson.
Johnson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Parasenko.

Parasenko closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Parasenko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Parasenko is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Johnson defends it well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Johnson misses with a head kick.
Parasenko has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Parasenko will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Parasenko steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Johnson. That one must have hurt.
Parasenko tries to clinch but Johnson moves away
and Johnson counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Parasenko is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Johnson dips to his left and cracks Parasenko with an uppercut!
Vladimir Parasenko is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A telegraphed right hand from Johnson misses the target.
John Johnson is winning the standup battle so far.
Johnson keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Parasenko slips a straight right by Johnson.
Parasenko looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Johnson throws a combination that misses

and Parasenko counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A close second round but Vladimir Parasenko will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Johnson is fighting off a takedown attempt but Parasenko is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Johnson to the mat. Johnson regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Johnson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Parasenko must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Parasenko is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Let's hope that Parasenko has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Johnson misses with a hook. Parasenko ducked under it nicely.
Johnson throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Parasenko throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Parasenko shoots in for a double leg but Johnson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

and Parasenko counters with a nice double leg into side control. Johnson won't be happy with that.
Johnson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Parasenko wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Parasenko is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Parasenko seems to be working for a kimura but Johnson defends the submission attempt.
Parasenko prevents Johnson from improving his position.
Parasenko wants to stand up but Johnson has a hold of him and won't allow it.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
