PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ian Montgomery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Myron Pillay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Myron Pillay told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ian Montgomery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Myron Pillay!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montgomery scores with a crisp jab that stopped Pillay in his tracks.
A shot to the body from Montgomery misses
and Pillay counters with a one-two to the body.
Montgomery lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Montgomery scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Pillay doesn't seem bothered though.
Montgomery throws a body shot but no joy.
Montgomery misses with a wild combination.

Pillay has managed to clinch.
Montgomery prevents a takedown attempt there.

Pillay escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pillay tries to close the distance and clinch but Montgomery swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Montgomery swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Pillay walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Montgomery checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
A slow jab from Montgomery misses its intended target.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pillay tries to clinch but Montgomery moves out of range.
Montgomery throws a lazy right hand but Pillay sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pillay throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Pillay moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
A head kick by Pillay misses
and Montgomery counters with a series of strikes. Pillay will be more careful next time no doubt.
Montgomery scores with a nice right hand.
Montgomery lands the left hand.
Montgomery misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Pillay.
Pillay has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Montgomery stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Montgomery wants it to stay on the feet.
Montgomery works Pillay's body with a nice hook.
Pillay avoids a punch combination nicely.
Montgomery throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Montgomery lands a body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pillay walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Montgomery throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Montgomery catches Pillay with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Pillay throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Montgomery changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Ian Montgomery has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Myron Pillay.
Montgomery throws a big shot that misses.
Pillay misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Montgomery ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Pillay moves away.
Montgomery connects with a good right hand that stumbles Pillay. Pillay circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Pillay with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Montgomery to score with a decent uppercut.
A left lands for Montgomery.


Pillay is rocked!
Pillay walks into a straight right hand from Montgomery.
Pillay is still on wobbly legs! Can Montgomery finish him?
Montgomery cracks Pillay on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Pillay falls backwards against the cage. Montgomery follows up with more strikes that drop Pillay to his knees. Montgomery keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Pillay! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ian Montgomery!
Ian Montgomery really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that KnockOut logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
