PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between James Oddweek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Lebowitz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniel Lebowitz told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Oddweek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Lebowitz!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lebowitz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Oddweek manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lebowitz with a nice cross.
Oddweek throws a lazy uppercut
and Lebowitz counters with a nice uppercut.
Lebowitz is looking to clinch.
Lebowitz dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Oddweek is looking to clinch but Lebowitz is avoiding it.
Oddweek closes the distance and clinches up with Lebowitz, looking for a takedown. Oddweek pushes Lebowitz against the cage but Lebowitz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Oddweek takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Oddweek takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Lebowitz is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Donk. Lebowitz catches Oddweek right on the button with a cross.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lebowitz cracks Oddweek with a right hand to the side of the head.
Lebowitz lands a slapping body shot.

Oddweek closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Oddweek looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Lebowitz tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Oddweek decides to stand up, so the ref orders Lebowitz to his feet.
Lebowitz slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Lebowitz jabs Oddweek to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Oddweek clinches.
Lebowitz stalling against the cage.

Oddweek pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lebowitz cracks Oddweek with an open hand slap.
Lebowitz moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Oddweek misses with an attempted mid kick.

Lebowitz has managed to clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Oddweek.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Oh Oddweek is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Oddweek tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lebowitz just stands there and leans against the cage.
Oddweek seems to have got his legs back now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Oddweek. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lebowitz misses with a short punch on the inside.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Oddweek has picked Lebowitz up - he's going for a ride! Oddweek dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Oddweek takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Oddweek tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Oddweek counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Oddweek controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Oddweek works over Lebowitz with some ground and pound from guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lebowitz working a defensive guard but Oddweek manages to pass into side control anyway.
Lebowitz is trying to work for a sweep but Oddweek has mounted him!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

James Oddweek is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Oddweek misses with a takedown
and Lebowitz counters with a left to the body.
Lebowitz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Lebowitz moves into the clinch.
Oddweek is pushing Lebowitz up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Oddweek has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lebowitz avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Oddweek controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Oddweek closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lebowitz to the mat! Lebowitz manages to get full guard.

Oddweek passes Lebowitz's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Oddweek thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Oddweek uses his free foot to push down on Lebowitz's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Lebowitz.

Oddweek is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Lebowitz to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Lebowitz shrugs it off.

Oddweek is trying to work for a kimura but Lebowitz is defending well.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Oddweek in particular looking to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Oddweek dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Lebowitz lands a jab to the nose.
A shot to the liver by Lebowitz. Beautiful body shot.
Lebowitz works the jab nicely.
Oddweek moves forwards but Lebowitz connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Lebowitz lands with a cross.
Lebowitz tries to clinch there but Oddweek circles away.
Lebowitz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Oddweek.
Lebowitz scores with a decent looking hook.
Oddweek takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Lebowitz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

James Oddweek overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lebowitz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Oddweek thows a huge punch but Lebowitz dodges it nicely.
Still in half guard, Oddweek seems content to control.
Oddweek passes the guard and advances to mount!
Oddweek controlling the pace for now.

Oddweek get's back to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lebowitz moves in looking to clinch but Oddweek pushes him off.
Oddweek throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
It seemed like Lebowitz was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Daniel Lebowitz seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Oddweek tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lebowitz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Oddweek somewhat.
Lebowitz tries to clinch but Oddweek moves out of range.
Lebowitz thuds his right hand into Oddweek's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Oddweek keeps the fight on the outside.
Lebowitz defending well as Oddweek loads up on a big left hand.
Lebowitz throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Oddweek on the side of the head.
Jab, jab by Lebowitz - just one landing.

Oddweek shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lebowitz napping and manages to drive through into side control!

A lazy left from Lebowitz finds it's target.
Oddweek shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lebowitz pinned against the cage. Lebowitz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Lebowitz looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Oddweek throws a big counter combination but Lebowitz scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Lebowitz cracks Oddweek with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Oddweek takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Lebowitz lands with a straight right. Oddweek didn't see that one coming.
Oddweek takes one on the button.
Oddweek dives in and grabs Lebowitz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lebowitz pushes down on Oddweek's head and hops out.
A little jabbing left from Lebowitz on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Oddweek. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lebowitz lands an overhand right.
Oddweek fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lebowitz avoids it really well and circles away.

Oddweek drives through and clinches with Lebowitz against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lebowitz swings wildly with an uppercut but Oddweek uses good head movement to avoid it.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Lebowitz.
Lebowitz tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Lebowitz lands an uppercut.
Lebowitz struggles to land a body shot inside as Oddweek controls his hands.

And that's the end of the fight!
Daniel Lebowitz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lebowitz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
