PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chase Walsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Barath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chase Walsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Barath!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walsh looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Barath is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Walsh pulls his head out easily.
Barath tries to roll over but Walsh keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Walsh takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Walsh decides to stand up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Barath.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barath closes the distance and clinches.
Barath stalling.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stalling in the clinch from Barath.
Walsh is looking to take this one to the mat.

Walsh wants the takedown. Barath is fighting it off but Walsh persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Barath's guard against the cage.

Walsh stands up and waves to Barath to follow him.
Barath wants to clinch up but Walsh keeps it at a distance.
Walsh tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Barath manages to circle out of the way.

Barath pushes Walsh up against the cage in a clinch.

Barath breaks from the clinch.
Barath shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Walsh but Walsh pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Walsh seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Walsh shoots in for a takedown but Barath shows good takedown defense.
Nice takedown defense from Barath. No joy for Walsh on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chase Walsh. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Barath.
Walsh went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Walsh gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Barath to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Walsh kicks Barath off and gets to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Barath wants to clinch.
Walsh tries to counter with a takedown but Barath is quick to defend against it.

Walsh dives in and grabs Barath's left leg, looking for a takedown. Barath pushes down on Walsh's head and hops out.
Walsh tries for a takedown but Barath sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Barath fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Walsh seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Barath instigates a clinch.
Barath is trying to break the clinch but Walsh has him pressed against the cage.
Walsh is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Barath pulls him back up using the underhooks.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Barath breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Barath shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Walsh defends it nicely.
Barath looks winded!

Barath clinches up with Walsh and pushes him back against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Barath is trying to drag Walsh to the mat but Walsh just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Barath is defending well against a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chase Walsh will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Horrible takedown attempt by Barath or perhaps it was just good defense by Walsh, which made it look bad.
Walsh misses with a takedown attempt - Barath sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Walsh takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Barath fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Walsh, pushing him back against the cage.

Barath changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Walsh fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Walsh counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Barath!

Walsh staying calm.
Barath tries to buck Walsh off but Walsh is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Barath's face as Walsh controls the position.
Walsh works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Walsh lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Walsh in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Walsh decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Barath is breathing heavily.
Barath looks to throw a body kick

and Walsh counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Barath pushes Walsh off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Walsh is trying hard to land a takedown here. Barath sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Barath throws a head kick but Walsh moves out of range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Walsh moves into the clinch successfully.
A frustrated look appears on Barath's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Barath tries to work over Walsh's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Walsh has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Barath avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chase Walsh. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Barath trying to stall but Walsh improves his position.
Barath tries to stall but Walsh uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Barath tries to break the clinch but Walsh is controlling the position.
Barath misses with a short punch on the inside.

Walsh is trying to trip Barath. He has hold of a leg but Barath is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Walsh persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Walsh is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Walsh with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Walsh gets to his feet - Barath follows without any prompting.
Walsh shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Chris Barath seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walsh stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Walsh wants it to stay on the feet.

and Walsh counters with a nice double leg into side control. Barath won't be happy with that.

Walsh decides to stand back up. Walsh steps back and let's Barath get back to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Walsh.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Walsh happy to just control the position for now.
Walsh has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Barath trying to remain calm as Walsh controls from the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chase Walsh dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Barath fails with an attempt to clinch.
Walsh fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Walsh sets himself, and Barath steps forward looking for the clinch! Walsh avoids it this time.
Barath shoots in for a takedown but Walsh shows good takedown defense.

Walsh is looking to counter the offense by Barath and move into the clinch.

Barath tries a body shot but Walsh blocks it.

Barath takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Barath is trying to control the action in half guard but Walsh is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Barath must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Walsh has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Barath off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Barath looks for a takedown but Walsh sprawls well.
Walsh tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Barath swivels and escapes.

Walsh closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Walsh lands in his opponent's guard.

Walsh's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Barath is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Walsh defends well.

Walsh decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Walsh.
Chase Walsh is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Walsh gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Barath tries for a takedown but Walsh manages to get underhooks.
Walsh drops down looking for an ankle pick but Barath pulls his leg out and moves away.

and Walsh holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Barath jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Walsh walks away with a smile on his face. Barath gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Walsh counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Walsh not doing much here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Walsh gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Barath gets caught flat footed, as Walsh shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Walsh slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Walsh stands up from guard. Let's bang!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Walsh goes for a double leg but Barath avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Barath continues to drive forward.
Barath throws a combination. Walsh tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chase Walsh showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Walsh, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
