Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zane Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeffrey Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zane Mason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jeffrey Taylor!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taylor fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mason avoids it really well and circles away.
Mason connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Mason cracks Taylor with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Taylor shoots for a double leg takedown but Mason sprawls well. He's pushed Taylor's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mason with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Mason connects with a nice looking jab.
Taylor fails with a takedown attempt.
Zane Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeffrey Taylor.
Taylor uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Mason.
Mason throws the left hand but Taylor avoids the punch easily.

Taylor closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mason's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mason holds on and takes a little breather.
Taylor wants to control from the top but Mason keeps moving.

Taylor throws an elbow that misses. Mason uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Taylor's guard. Nice move by Mason!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Taylor looking for a sweep. Not yet Taylor, not yet.

Taylor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Taylor has Mason pulled in close to control his posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Taylor shoots in looking for a takedown. Mason tries to sprawl out of it but Taylor keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mason manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The crowd cheers as Mason lands an impressive looking overhand right. Taylor doesn't seem phased though.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Taylor working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Taylor decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Mason has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Taylor is working away from the top position though.
Taylor wants to pass the guard but Mason is defending well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nice straight punches there by Mason. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Mason.
Taylor on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Mason. Mason obviously looking to wear him down.
Taylor misses with a takedown attempt - Mason sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Taylor darts in looking for a takedown but Mason gets double underhooks and turns Taylor into the cage.

Zane Mason is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mason throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

A slapping leg kick lands for Mason.
Mason misses with a hook.
Zane Mason is winning the standup battle so far.
Taylor takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Taylor dives in for a single leg takedown but Mason sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Taylor.
Taylor shoots in for a takedown but Mason shows good takedown defense.
Mason throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

and Taylor decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mason's guard.

Mason pulls Taylor in close to his closed guard and prevents Taylor from doing any damage or advancing position.
Mason continues to stall.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zane Mason dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Taylor takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Taylor shoots in but Mason avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Taylor chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Mason can pounce on him.

The fighters circling - Mason throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Taylor takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
We've been told by Mason's head coaches at Cylon Training Academy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Zane Mason seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mason is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Taylor can do to turn this around?

Mason throws a sloppy head kick and Taylor moves out of range easily.
Taylor seems to have recovered his senses.
Mason connects with a leg kick. Taylor looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Mason seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mason, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
