PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dave Kopp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tobias Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Kopp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tobias Marshall!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Colin Fotheringham and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kopp throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Marshall counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Marshall throws out a loose jab but Kopp uses good head movement to avoid it.
Marshall misses with a telegraphed body shot
letting Kopp counter with a right hand.
Marshall throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kopp.
Kopp dives in for a single leg takedown but Marshall sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Marshall jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Kopp shoots for a takedown but Marshall saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Marshall ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kopp moves away.
Kopp tries to score a power double leg takedown but Marshall sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kopp somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Kopp. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marshall looks to throw the jab but Kopp is out of range.
Kopp throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Marshall stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Kopp takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Marshall throws an off balance right hand
and Kopp counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kopp shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Kopp misses with a takedown
and Marshall counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Kopp gets the takedown into side control.
The ground and pound from Kopp seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Kopp fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Kopp working the strikes but Marshall uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Kopp looks to land a strike but Marshall avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Marshall has momentary wrist control but Kopp slips an elbow through the middle.
Kopp lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Kopp is working Marshall over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kopp accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kopp throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Marshall works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Marshall can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kopp working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kopp in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Marshall tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kopp with a nice head shot there.
Marshall really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kopp. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kopp keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Marshall's head.
Kopp is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Kopp is looking to work some ground and pound but Marshall has wrist control.
Kopp throws a strike but Marshall rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marshall has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kopp is proving hard to escape from.

Kopp is adopting a defensive guard.
Kopp has a closed guard, preventing Marshall from standing up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kopp has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Kopp bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Marshall's guard.

Kopp is looking to work some ground and pound but Marshall has wrist control.
Kopp throws an elbow that misses. Marshall uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kopp's guard. Nice move by Marshall!

Kopp tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dave Kopp will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A combination from Marshall does no damage.
As Marshall tries to get set, Kopp tries to push him back and clinch up but Marshall manages to avoid the attempt.
Kopp shoots in for a double leg but Marshall sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Marshall gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kopp to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kopp's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Dave Kopp overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kopp has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dave Kopp will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Marshall tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kopp was well out of range. Poor timing from Marshall.
Kopp is looking to counter the offense by Marshall and move into the clinch.
Marshall leaves Kopp with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Marshall stuffs the takedown.

It looks like Dave Kopp has been cut.
Marshall throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Kopp moves into the clinch.
Marshall is pushing Kopp up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Kopp works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Kopp creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Marshall sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kopp, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
