PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sterling Archer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Archer has chosen Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 18 - 2, fighting out of New York, Nick Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sterling Archer!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Russell Pearce and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Alvarez throws a poor cross that misses
and Archer finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Archer, right into the meat.
Alvarez looks to score with a jab to the body but Archer is just out of range.

Alvarez scores with a takedown into Archer's guard.
Archer is pulling down on Alvarez's head. It's preventing any offense from Alvarez, at least for the moment.
Archer has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Elite Strikers. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Archer has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Alvarez is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Archer.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Archer is trying to control Alvarez's posture but Alvarez avoids it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Archer wants to control but Alvarez is keeping busy.
Alvarez tries to escape but Archer has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Alvarez breaks Archer's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Both fighters circling a little - Archer finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Archer throws a front kick aimed at Alvarez's knee but Alvarez avoids it well.
Archer is looking to land body kicks.
Alvarez shoots in looking for a takedown. Archer tries to sprawl out of it but Alvarez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Archer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Alvarez has been working on his balance at Kattegat, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Archer.

Sterling Archer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Archer - that will leave a mark!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Archer lands with a shot to the body.
Archer keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Archer scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Archer throws a looping overhand right but Alvarez ducks down to avoid it.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Archer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Alvarez is looking to clinch.
Alvarez dives in for a single leg takedown but Archer sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Archer plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Alvarez shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Archer manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Archer is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Archer has control of Alvarez's left arm, preventing Alvarez from doing any damage.
Alvarez wants to control from the top but Archer keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sterling Archer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Archer fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Alvarez manages to avoid it.
Archer throws a leg kick but Alvarez moved away.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Archer.
Alvarez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Archer throws a head kick that misses.
Alvarez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Archer counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Alvarez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Archer tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Alvarez tries to hold on but Archer pushes him away.

Archer wants to control the pace but Alvarez is squirming around nicely.
Archer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Nick Alvarez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sterling Archer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Archer winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
