Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Locke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Plaid Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Locke has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Locke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Plaid Shaw!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shaw moves into the clinch.

Shaw manages to break the clinch.
Shaw fails to land the takedown.
Locke tries to counter by clinching up but Shaw breaks away and moves out of range.
Shaw avoids the head kick by Locke.

Shaw closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Locke did well to prevent Shaw getting side control.
Locke slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Shaw won't allow Locke to get back to his feet.

Shaw gets to his feet - Locke follows without any prompting.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Locke misses with a low kick.
Shaw is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

and Shaw counters with a stiff right hand.

Shaw moves into the clinch successfully.
Locke can't get the takedown.

Shaw breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Shaw fails with the takedown.
An inside leg kick from Shaw misses.
Locke avoids the head kick by Shaw.
Locke feinted with a counter takedown.
Shaw throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

Locke wriggles free and stands up.
Locke is trying hard to land a takedown here. Shaw sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Locke. That's going to take a lot out of him.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Shaw.
Shaw shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Locke as he avoids it easily.

A head kick misses from Shaw.

Locke gets a double leg takedown into Shaw's guard.

Shaw pushes Locke off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Shaw shoots in looking for a takedown. Locke tries to sprawl out of it but Shaw keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Locke manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
It looked like Locke was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Shaw.

Locke throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shaw's waist but Shaw gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Locke off to one side.

Nice takedown defense from Shaw. No joy for Locke on that attempt.
Shaw throws a counter combo.
Locke slips a straight right by Shaw.
Nice sprawl there from Shaw as Locke shoots in.
It seemed like Shaw was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Shaw closes this distance looking for a takedown but Locke circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Shaw enables Locke to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Shaw manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Locke thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Shaw really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Locke. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Locke drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Locke jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Shaw looking for a sweep. Not yet Shaw, not yet.
Shaw wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Locke is now in half guard.

Shaw is defending against the submission attempts here by Locke.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Locke seems to be looking for submissions.

Locke is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Shaw has managed to free his arm - good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that John Locke will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Locke keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Locke feinted there with a counter leg kick.

Shaw clinches up with Locke and pushes him back against the cage.
Locke can't get the takedown.
Locke goes for a takedown in the clinch but Shaw prevents it.
Locke has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Shaw avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Shaw has clasped his hands together around Locke's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Shaw takes a little break here. Locke wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Shaw is continuing to stall.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Shaw stands up and beckons Locke to his feet.
Shaw just misses with a punch to the body.
Locke throws a big counter combination but Shaw scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Shaw darts in and clinches Locke up against the cage.

Shaw has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Locke clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

John Locke overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Shaw is hanging on to Locke's back as he tries to escape.

Locke defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Shaw's arms.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Shaw controlling the positon.
Locke turns into Shaw and is now in his guard.
Shaw is trying to control the position but Locke postures up.

Locke is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Locke drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Locke as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Shaw screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Locke! Nice submission victory there!
