PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stu Bennett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rustam Khabilov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khabilov has chosen Rihanna Bitch Better Have My Money as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stu Bennett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rustam Khabilov!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Khabilov throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bennett tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Khabilov is in Bennett's guard.
Bennett is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bennett is looking to take a break and control but Khabilov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khabilov tries to roll over but Bennett keeps him under control.
Khabilov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bennett is working away from the top position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Khabilov connects with a nice short shot to Bennett's temple.

Rustam Khabilov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Khabilov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bennett jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Khabilov walks away with a smile on his face. Bennett gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
