PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Denis Carpenter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hazrullah Semsi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Hazrullah Semsi was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Denis Carpenter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Hazrullah Semsi!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Andrew Berry and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carpenter throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Semsi's waist but Semsi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Carpenter off to one side.
Hazrullah Semsi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Semsi misses with a combination
and Carpenter counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Semsi shoots in but no luck this time.
Carpenter appears to be looking for a big counter.
Carpenter tries to clinch but Semsi moves out of range.
Carpenter shoots in for a takedown but Semsi shows good takedown defense.
Semsi pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Carpenter drops down looking for a counter takedown but Semsi sprawls and moves away.

Semsi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Carpenter works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Semsi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carpenter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Semsi pulls Carpenter in close to his closed guard and prevents Carpenter from doing any damage or advancing position.
Carpenter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Carpenter slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Denis Carpenter will probably get the nod.

Semsi shoots in looking for a takedown. Carpenter tries to sprawl out of it but Semsi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Carpenter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Semsi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Semsi lands in his opponent's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hazrullah Semsi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Carpenter content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Semsi has locked up a guillotine! Semsi's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Carpenter is holding on here and Semsi must be using up a lot of energy. Carpenter has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Semsi gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
