PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Wooten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephen Burton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lucas Wooten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Stephen Burton!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Atkins and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wooten closes the distance and pushes Burton back into the cage.
Wooten has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Burton after a bit of a struggle.

Burton manages to pull guard.
Wooten postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burton pulls Wooten in close to his closed guard and prevents Wooten from doing any damage or advancing position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooten is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Wooten throws a big elbow that misses.
Wooten could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Wooten wanted to stand there but Burton had control of the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wooten wants to get up but he can't break Burton's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Wooten decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Burton, up you get!

And Burton tries to counter it with a takedown but Wooten pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Wooten shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wooten showed some decent athleticism there.

Wooten changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Burton tries to avoid it but Wooten manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Burton to the ground. Burton escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Wooten goes for a double leg but Burton avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Burton continues to drive forward.
Wooten is breathing heavily.
Wooten punishes Burton's body with a nice straight punch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wooten has a takedown stuffed.
Wooten shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Burton pinned against the cage. Burton gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And Burton tries to counter it with a takedown but Wooten pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Burton is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Lucas Wooten seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wooten shoots in looking for a takedown but Burton manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wooten's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Burton can do anything to dispel that myth.

Burton tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Burton looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Wooten throws a big right hand that misses.
Burton is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Wooten is controlling him.
Burton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wooten is one step ahead there.
Burton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
No luck for Wooten with that takedown attempt.

Burton postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Wooten is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Burton, into his guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Burton is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Burton is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Wooten defends it well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wooten is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Burton is nestled in close to Wooten, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Burton content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Burton looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wooten with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Well, if Burton is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Lucas Wooten has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
