PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Milton Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Hell's Bells- AC/DC as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Milton Cooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Cain Jones!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Jones with a flurry of punches that miss.
Jones missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Jones's corner is telling him to maintain position.
It looks like Jones might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Jones in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Cooper tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.
Jones fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cooper takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Cooper moves into the clinch successfully.
Cooper is pushing Jones up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Jones has had enough of the clinch but Cooper keeps him there for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cooper is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Jones is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Jones is trying to push Cooper away but Cooper has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Jones has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cooper is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Cooper stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Cooper has Jones pushed against the cage.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Cooper misses with a knee strike.
Jones wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Jones is trying to break the clinch but Cooper has him pressed against the cage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
A bit of stalling here from Cooper.
Jones tries for a takedown. No joy.
Milton Cooper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cain Jones.

Cooper is fighting off a takedown attempt but Jones is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Cooper to the mat. Cooper regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Jones is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Jones prevents Cooper from getting back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cooper avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cain Jones will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Jones dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Jones closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cooper's guard.
Jones is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Jones throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Jones looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Jones wants to control from the top but Cooper keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Jones looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Cooper kicks off Jones and gets to his feet.
Cooper tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
Cooper dodges the punch combination from Jones.
Cooper moves to clinch but Jones breaks away
enabling Jones to counter with a crisp jab.
Jones tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Cooper defends well and Jones ends up having to push Cooper into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Cooper is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Jones.
Jones stalks Cooper and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Cooper's face. Cooper staggers backwards, shaken.
Cooper wants to clinch but Jones slips to the side
and Jones connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cooper tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jones jabs at Cooper's body.

Cooper rushes Jones and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Come on Cooper - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Cooper has Jones pressed against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Cooper keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Cain Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

and Jones counters with a right hand to the body.
Cain Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jones throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jones is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cooper.
Cooper tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Cooper uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jones.
Cain Jones seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Cooper ducks under a wild hook from Jones.
Jones lands a nice looking body shot.
Cooper tries to clinch up.
Jones misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cooper shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jones counters with a nice uppercut.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cooper looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jones is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cooper.
Jones swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cooper tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Jones throws out a loose jab but Cooper uses good head movement to avoid it.

Jones swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Cooper tries to counter by clinching up but Jones breaks away and moves out of range.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cooper as he jumps to the side.

Horrible takedown attempt by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Cooper, which made it look bad.
Cooper tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.
Jones is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cooper has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Cooper there as he acknowledges the shot.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones looks to land a combination but Cooper avoids it well.
Jones shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cooper pinned against the cage. Cooper gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Jones scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Cain Jones is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Cooper walks into a left hand.
Nice takedown defense from Cooper. No joy for Jones on that attempt.
Cooper tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cooper somewhat.
Cooper wants to clinch.

Cooper defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jones.
Jones fails with a takedown attempt.
Jones lands with a nice combination. Cooper backs away looking to recover.
Cooper fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jones avoids it really well and circles away.
Jones swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Cooper counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Cooper with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Milton Cooper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!


It looks like Cain Jones has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cooper is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cain Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jones winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
