PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anton Mirc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Bean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mirc comes to the cage accompanied by Bring Da Pain. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anton Mirc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Bean!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jonathan Paton and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab by Bean.
Mirc has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Gladiator Training Center in the buildup to the fight.
Bean misses with a kick to the body.
Mirc lands a head kick. Bean smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like James Bean has been cut.
A punch combination from Mirc misses.
Mirc with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Bean to score with a decent uppercut.
Mirc throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mirc misses with a series of wild punches.
A combination from Mirc does no damage.
Mirc misses with a double jab
and Bean counters with a series of strikes. Mirc will be more careful next time no doubt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bean clobbers Mirc with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Mirc throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Bean holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Mirc makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Bean blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Mirc has a couple of punches blocked by Bean.
Mirc working hard to break the clinch.
Bean wants to break the clinch but can't.

Mirc breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bean shoots and misses
and Mirc counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Bean is lucky that one didn't land flush.

and Bean counters with a left to the body.
Mirc pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Mirc waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Bean.
Bean raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Mirc throws a right and a left that Bean avoids nicely.
Mirc sets himself, and Bean steps forward looking for the clinch! Mirc avoids it this time.

The fighters circling - Mirc throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Bean! But no joy.
Mirc lands a jab-cross combination.

Bean throws a nice looking combination but Mirc bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Bean forces Mirc back against the cage and clinches.
Mirc is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Bean breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mirc looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Mirc misses with an attempted mid kick.

Mirc throws a sloppy head kick and Bean moves out of range easily.
Mirc misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bean tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mirc was well out of range. Poor timing from Bean.
Mirc appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

Bean throws a shot to the body.
Mirc scores with a three punch combo!
Mirc throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Mirc throws a right hand that Bean ducks under and follows up with a left that Bean also avoids with ease.
Mirc has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Bean.
Mirc throws a head kick that misses
and Bean makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Bean clinches up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bean has Mirc pressed against the cage.
Mirc creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Mirc wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bean has him pressed against the cage.
Bean is pushing Mirc up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Mirc misses with a punch on the inside.
Mirc tries to break free but Bean pushes him back against the cage.

Bean manages to break the clinch.
Bean moves in looking to clinch but Mirc pushes him off.
Anton Mirc is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bean tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mirc was well out of range. Poor timing from Bean.
Mirc throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Anton Mirc seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Anton Mirc will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on James Bean's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Mirc works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Mirc throws a nice inside leg kick.

Mirc throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Mirc uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Bean.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Mirc.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mirc misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Bean connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Mirc momentarily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mirc fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Bean checks it well.

Despite the aggression on Bean's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

and Bean counters with a two punch combo.
Mirc wants to land a leg kick but Bean is out of range.
Mirc misses with a wild combination.
Bean blocks a head kick by Mirc.
Mirc avoids the head kick by Bean.
Mirc seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Bean dives in and grabs Mirc's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mirc pushes down on Bean's head and hops out.
Bean moves out of range of the body kick from Mirc.
Bean looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Bean throws a nice looking combination but Mirc bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Mirc swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Bean connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Mirc momentarily.
Anton Mirc is winning the standup battle so far.
Mirc takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Bean motions for Mirc to come forward. Bean throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Bean avoids a punch combination nicely.
Anton Mirc is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bean tries for a takedown but Mirc sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mirc takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Bean has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Mirc seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Bean can turn it around.

Mirc breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mirc takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Bean fails to land the takedown.
Anton Mirc has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Bean.
Bean tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mirc was well out of range. Poor timing from Bean.

Bean looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Bean stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mirc.

A close second round but James Bean will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Bean lands a nice looking body shot.
Bean fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mirc misses with the combination.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Bean! But no joy.

Bean paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Mirc goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Mirc swings wildly with an uppercut but Bean uses good head movement to avoid it.

Mirc tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Bean's elbow.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bean blocks an elbow strike from Mirc.

Mirc keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Bean's efforts to push away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bean has Mirc pulled in close to control his posture.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Bean is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Mirc presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Anton Mirc.
I think Mirc has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
