PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Wooten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Monk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Monk has chosen Oh When The Saints as his entrance music. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Lucas Wooten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Will Monk!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, William Gold and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wooten drives through with a takedown into guard.
Monk looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Wooten is stalling in the full guard.
Wooten throws a strike but Monk rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Monk prevents Wooten from getting back to his feet.
Wooten could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Monk trying to control the position from guard on top but Wooten is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wooten is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Monk is controlling him.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Monk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wooten swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Wooten wants to stand but Monk is controlling the position.
Monk has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Wooten is proving hard to escape from.

Wooten working for a triangle but Monk defends it easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Monk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wooten swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Monk has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Wooten is proving hard to escape from.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Monk shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wooten but Wooten pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Monk fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Monk gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Wooten to score an easy takedown into full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wooten decides to stand up, so the ref orders Monk to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Wooten rushes Monk and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Wooten has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Monk regains guard immediately.
Wooten wants to get up but he can't break Monk's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Wooten closes this distance looking for a takedown but Monk circles away.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Wooten is working Monk over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Wooten ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Wooten no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Monk wants to control from the top but Wooten keeps moving.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Wooten shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Wooten was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Wooten tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wooten has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Monk is trying to control Wooten's posture but Wooten avoids it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Monk is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Wooten stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Monk throws a head kick that misses.

Wooten closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wooten lands in his opponent's guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wooten not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Will Monk has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lucas Wooten is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Wooten has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Monk to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Wooten is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Monk pulls down on the head and he's put Wooten to sleep! This one is all over!
