Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nate Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royal Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gonzalez comes to the cage accompanied by Gangsta Gangsta by N.W.A. Pain is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by AC/DC Thunderstruck. This should be fireworks!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nate Gonzalez!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Royal Pain!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pain uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Gonzalez.
Pain with a lazy takedown attempt
and Gonzalez counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Pain has his takedown stuffed
and Gonzalez counters with a nice body shot.

Pain gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pain looking for a sweep. Not yet Pain, not yet.

Pain looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pain working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gonzalez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gonzalez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Gonzalez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Pain has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gonzalez is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Pain.

Pain is looking to sweep but instead, Gonzalez has passed into half guard.

Gonzalez moves out of range as Pain throws a body kick.
Pain misses with a takedown
and Pain takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Gonzalez tests Pain's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Gonzalez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pain can do to turn this around?

Pain throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

and Gonzalez counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pain is on top in guard.

Pain slips nicely into half guard.
Pain working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Gonzalez's thigh. Gonzalez counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Pain trying to control the position from guard on top but Gonzalez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pain slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Pain trying to control but Gonzalez is working from the bottom.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gonzalez is pulling down on Pain's head to control his posture.
Pain slips nicely into half guard.

Pain is trying to work for a kimura but Gonzalez is defending well.
Gonzalez is refusing to be controlled, as Pain sits in half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pain looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gonzalez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Gonzalez is trying to maintain the position but Pain is very close to passing his half guard.
Pain stalling.
Pain is trying to control. Gonzalez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Pain is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gonzalez sees it coming and defends easily.

A close second round but Royal Pain will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Pain attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Pain moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Gonzalez fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Pain shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gonzalez is trying to defend but Pain finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

What can Gonzalez do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Pain is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gonzalez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Gonzalez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Pain has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Gonzalez has passed into side control.
Pain tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gonzalez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Gonzalez lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Pain down.

That was a close round but Nate Gonzalez did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A decent looking cross lands there for Pain.
Gonzalez takes a swing at Pain's ribcage but misses.
Gonzalez moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Gonzalez fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Pain tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gonzalez swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gonzalez is looking to wear down Pain with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

and Gonzalez counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Pain takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Pain throws the left hand but Gonzalez avoids the punch easily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Gonzalez. Pain does a little dance to reset his feet.
Gonzalez jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Pain misses the jab.
Pain throws out a loose jab but Gonzalez uses good head movement to avoid it.
Pain throws a body punch but Gonzalez moves out of range.
Gonzalez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Gonzalez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Pain on his heels. He'll look to pass Pain's guard now, I'm sure.

Pain lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Pain passes easily into side control. Nice work.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Gonzalez regains half guard.
Pain performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Pain is stalling here. Gonzalez is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Pain seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Gonzalez has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Pain is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Gonzalez jumps into side control!

Pain throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Gonzalez escapes and throws Pain's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Nate Gonzalez was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
In defeat, Royal Pain stepped up to the mic, saying 'Shit, there goes my chance to be like Mike.'.
