PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tyrion Snow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan has chosen I'd Love to Knock the Hell out of You by Hank Williams, Jr as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tyrion Snow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 27 - 2, fighting out of London, Daniel Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Paul Aken and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ryan steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Snow.
Good exchange - Snow coming out on top.
Snow swings widly with a right hand

and Ryan counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Ryan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Snow has managed to free his arm - good work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Snow is holding on to half guard well.

Snow is defending against the submission attempts here by Ryan.
Ryan is thwarting Snow's attempts to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Snow makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Snow.
Snow bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ryan's guard.

Ryan thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Snow stopping the sweep attempt from Ryan.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ryan being controlled here, momentarily.
Ryan is trying to control the position but Snow postures up.
Snow tries to free his leg and advance position but Ryan is retaining full guard.

Snow controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Snow got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ryan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Snow has managed to get both his arms back between Ryan's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Snow sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ryan keeping moving, preventing Snow from controlling successfully.

Snow got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ryan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Snow has managed to get both his arms back between Ryan's legs - danger averted.

Ryan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Snow gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Snow tries to free his leg and advance position but Ryan is retaining full guard.

Ryan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Snow defends it easily.
Snow wants to control from the top but Ryan keeps moving.
Ryan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Snow trying to control the position from guard on top but Ryan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Snow misses with a wild body shot.
Snow throws the left hand but Ryan avoids the punch easily.
Ryan dives in for a single leg takedown but Snow sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Snow swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Ryan walks into a straight right hand from Snow.
Snow scores with a nice strike.
Snow throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Snow displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Snow cracks Ryan with a good jab.
Ryan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Snow is fending him off so far but Ryan persists. Nope, Snow circles away and we're back to standing.
Ryan on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A big right from Snow misses.
Ryan shoots in for a takedown but Snow shows good takedown defense.
An attempted straight right counter from Snow misses the target.
Tyrion Snow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Ryan.
Snow throws out a loose jab but Ryan uses good head movement to avoid it.
Snow displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ryan.
Snow takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Tyrion Snow is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Ryan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Ryan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Snow manages to get back to half guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A looping hook to the body misses from Snow. Ryan does a little dance to reset his feet.
Snow misses with a low kick.
A telegraphed right hand from Snow misses the target.
Ryan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Snow defends it nicely.
Tyrion Snow is winning the standup battle so far.
Good standup being displayed there by Snow as he connects with a hook.
Tyrion Snow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Snow misses with an uppercut. Ryan saw that one coming.
Ryan darts in looking for a takedown but Snow gets double underhooks and turns Ryan into the cage.
A counter left hand to the body from Snow misses its target.

Ryan throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Snow escapes and throws Ryan's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Ryan is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Snow is staying active.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Snow has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
A swing and a miss from Snow.
Snow slaps away a takedown attempt from Ryan, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Tyrion Snow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Ryan.
Snow ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Ryan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Snow napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Snow is looking for a sweep.
Snow manages to get back to half guard.

Snow has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ryan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ryan makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Ryan won't allow Snow to sweep him here.
Ryan is pushing down on Snow's leg trying to pass to half guard. Snow is fighting to maintain full guard but Ryan has managed to sneak the leg through.
Snow wants to get back to full guard.

Ryan seems to be looking for submissions.
Snow trying to hold on to Ryan's head to control him but Ryan postures up.
Ryan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Snow with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Ryan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Snow sees it coming and defends easily.
Snow moves into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tyrion Snow dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Snow has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ryan is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Snow.

The fighters are battling for position here. Ryan manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Snow's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Ryan is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Snow has his hands clasped together but Ryan extends and breaks Snow's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Ryan.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Daniel Ryan!
After the fight, Daniel Ryan was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
