The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ayers dives in and scores a takedown into Johnson 's guard.

Ayers wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Johnson , who protects the arm well.

Johnson is trying to drag Ayers to the mat but Ayers just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ayers throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ayers is in Johnson 's guard.

Johnson gets to his feet. Ayers looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Johnson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ayers wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Johnson manages to pass to side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

John Johnson seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Johnson finds Ayers's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Ayers flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Johnson lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Ayers will be OK.
