Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Hess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Heartsfold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Benjamin Hess!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeff Heartsfold!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Russell Pearce and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hess tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Heartsfold manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Heartsfold takes the fight into the clinch.

Heartsfold drags the fight down to the ground.

Heartsfold looking for a guillotine here but Hess defends easily.

Heartsfold throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hess escapes and throws Heartsfold's legs to the side, diving into side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Heartsfold tries to bench press Hess off him but Hess keeps the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Heartsfold is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Heartsfold blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hess.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hess content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Heartsfold is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hess pulls his head out easily.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hess really is a fat lump.
Heartsfold lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hess circles away quickly and effectively.
Heartsfold bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hess's head.
Hess misses with a hook. Heartsfold ducked under it nicely.
Heartsfold misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Heartsfold.

You can see the frustration on Hess's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hess might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Hess is trying to get back to half guard.
Hess isn't going anywhere.
Hess tries to bench press Heartsfold off him but Heartsfold keeps the position.
Hess wants to control but Heartsfold postures up.
Hess is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Hess is looking for a sweep.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hess can't do much from the bottom here.
Hess is looking to reverse the position.

Heartsfold decides to stand back up. Heartsfold steps back and let's Hess get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Heartsfold dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Hess appears to be looking for a big counter.
Heartsfold lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hess circles away quickly and effectively.
Hess seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Hess avoids a punch combination nicely.

Heartsfold fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hess sprawls well initially but Heartsfold persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Heartsfold is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Hess trying to hold on to Heartsfold's head to control him but Heartsfold postures up.
Hess is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hess moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Heartsfold has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hess bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Heartsfold's guard.

Hess is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Hess scoring with punches to the head and body.
Hess trying to control but Heartsfold is working from the bottom.

Heartsfold working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hess doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hess manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Heartsfold is breathing heavily.

Heartsfold looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Hess has picked Heartsfold up and slammed him! Heartsfold can't keep hold of the triangle and Hess manages to pass to side control!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hess wants to control but Heartsfold is keeping him busy.
Hess looks up at the clock and then as Heartsfold takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hess smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Heartsfold is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Hess gets to mount! Heartsfold was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Heartsfold is desperately trying to improve his position but Hess has a good base and remains in mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hess tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Hess trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Hess prevents Heartsfold from getting the reversal.
Hess with a couple of short strikes.
Hess controlling from mount.
Heartsfold is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Jeff Heartsfold has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hess controlling from mount.

Hess working for a guillotine from mount but Heartsfold is in no mood to give up.
Heartsfold regains half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hess wants to control but Heartsfold is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Benjamin Hess will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Heartsfold darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hess wants to control but Heartsfold is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Hess keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hess moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Hess wants to sweep here but Heartsfold controlling him for the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hess pulls Heartsfold in close to his closed guard and prevents Heartsfold from doing any damage or advancing position.
Heartsfold must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hess is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Heartsfold stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Hess feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hess got a little sloppy there for a moment and Heartsfold has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hess has managed to get both his arms back between Heartsfold's legs - danger averted.
Heartsfold takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hess postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Heartsfold has momentary wrist control but Hess slips an elbow through the middle.

Heartsfold working for submissions but it's allowed Hess to get to half guard.

Hess lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Hess drops an elbow to the side of Heartsfold's head.
Hess controlling the action here.

Heartsfold looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Hess with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Heartsfold with the active half guard here but Hess passes nicely into side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hess takes a little break here. Heartsfold wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Hess trying to control the position but Heartsfold is working away.

Heartsfold tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hess wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Hess is working Heartsfold over with some ground and pound from side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Benjamin Hess showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Hess has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
