Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michael Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Simona (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Simona!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Franklyn Lucas and Reed Andrews.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes forces Simona back against the cage and clinches.
Simona wants to break the clinch but can't.
A body shot lands from Hughes.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Simona has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Hughes scores with a nice hook to the head.

Hughes tightens his grip and picks Simona up, before dumping him to the ground. Simona manages to land in guard.
Hughes wants to pass the guard but Simona is keeping the position.
We've been hearing that Hughes has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Hughes throws a strike but Simona rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Simona not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Hughes keeping moving, preventing Simona from controlling successfully.
Simona controlling from the top position.
Simona missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Hughes looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hughes wants to stand up but Simona is controlling him.
Simona wants to pass the guard but Hughes is keeping the position.
Simona trying to control but Hughes is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Simona is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A right-left combo lands from Hughes.

It looks like Mike Simona has been cut.
Hughes jabs Simona right on the nose. Simona blinks but takes it well.

Simona is rocked!
Hughes pounces like a tiger and cracks Simona with a vicious hook! Simona is down but not out! Hughes follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
