PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between CP Munk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Parker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, CP Munk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Parker!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Munk throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Parker counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Parker shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Parker showed some decent athleticism there.
Parker thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Munk is on top in guard.

Munk wants to control from the top but Parker keeps moving.

Parker is pulling down on Munk's head to control his posture.
Munk throws a big elbow that misses.
Parker can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Munk controls the pace.
Munk postures up in Parker's guard and throws a big left but Parker blocks it.
Parker wants to get back to his feet but Munk is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Parker wants to stand but Munk is controlling the position.
Munk loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Munk trying to control the position from guard on top but Parker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Parker throws a looping overhand right but Munk ducks down to avoid it.
As Parker tries to get set, Munk tries to push him back and clinch up but Parker manages to avoid the attempt.

Parker throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Munk was covering up waiting for the punch and Parker finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Parker is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Munk is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Munk has escaped and now he's on top!

Munk postures up in Parker's guard and throws a big left but Parker blocks it.

Munk controls from within his opponent's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Parker tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Munk engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Parker bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Munk's guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Munk working a defensive guard here.
Munk wants to hit a switch here but Parker passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Munk there!
Parker punching from mount but Munk doing a good job of avoiding damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Parker dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Parker instigates a clinch.

Parker manages to break the clinch.
Parker takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Parker misses with a few strikes there.
Munk thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Parker if he has to take too many more of those.

Parker has closed the distance and engaged Munk in a clinch.
Parker drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Parker trying to stall but Munk improves his position.

Munk throws a punch but it's blocked by Parker.

Parker is trying to trip Munk. He has hold of a leg but Munk is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Parker persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Munk preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Parker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Munk swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Munk throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Parker has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Parker throws a big right hand that misses.
Parker passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Munk is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Parker off and has taken his back!
Parker trying to control the hands but Munk breaks the grip.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Munk's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Munk keeps control of the position as Parker tries to break free.
Munk is riding his opponent, not letting Parker buck him off.
A lull in the action here.
Parker wants to escape the position.
Munk misses with punches from the back.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Munk controlling the position well here. Parker rolled but Munk kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Munk not allowing Parker to control his hands.
Munk wants to control but Parker is keeping busy.
Munk throwing strikes and Parker squirms under the pressure, ending up mounted.
Poor strikes thrown by Munk there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Parker gets back to half guard.
Munk thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Parker's head.
Munk not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Munk not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Parker is looking to get back to full guard here but Munk has managed to pass to side control instead.
Parker is looking to regain half guard here but Munk keeps moving and retains side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that CP Munk will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Munk throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Munk takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Munk tries to close the distance and clinch up but Parker swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Munk misses with a hook to the ribs.
Parker is trying to maintain a safe position but Munk gets an underhook and turns Parker into the ropes.
Parker unloads a knee to the mid-section. Munk lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Munk tries to land knees in the clinch but Parker avoids the damage to the body.
Munk has Parker pressed against the ropes, preventing Parker from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Munk tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Parker changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Munk fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Parker throws a wild body kick that Munk sees coming a mile off.
Munk seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Parker pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Parker swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Munk counters by moving into the clinch.
A right handed body shot lands from Munk.
Parker manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

A head punch on the inside from Munk fails to land.
Munk misses with a hook to the ribs.
Parker is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Parker has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Munk misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Parker jumps guard but Munk stands there with Parker around his waist. Parker gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
CP Munk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Parker.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Munk doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Parker tries to circle away but Munk has him pinned against the ropes.
Munk gets through Parker's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Parker's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Parker is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Munk is defending well.
Munk gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Parker.
Parker prevents a body shot from Munk.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Parker has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Munk is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Munk working aggressively here.

Munk pulls Parker into guard.
Munk bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Parker's guard.


And that's the end of the fight!
CP Munk showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Munk has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
