Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hank Aaron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Steamboat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Steamboat's choice of entrance music: Lorde - Tennis Court. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ricky Steamboat was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricky Steamboat!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Aaron misses the target.
Aaron throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Steamboat sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Aaron lands a leg kick that knocks Steamboat off balance momentarily.
Steamboat lands a slapping body shot.
Aaron lands a nice looking body kick.
Aaron throws a front kick that sends Steamboat stumbling back into the cage.
Steamboat chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Aaron can pounce on him.
Aaron lands with a nice combination. Steamboat backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Ricky Steamboat has been cut.
Aaron fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Steamboat on the side of the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Steamboat throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Aaron.
Aaron was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Aaron looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Aaron scores with a decent looking hook.
Steamboat fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A decent looking cross lands there for Aaron.
Ricky Steamboat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Aaron ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Steamboat moves away.
Aaron lands a glancing blow to the side of Steamboat's head.
Steamboat shoots in for a double leg but Aaron sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Aaron wants to stand and escape but Steamboat is having none of it.

Steamboat has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Steamboat working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Aaron tries to hold on but Steamboat pushes him away.

Steamboat lands a big shot there that rocks Aaron but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Steamboat pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Steamboat postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Aaron looks a forlorn figure.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A nice elbow there by Steamboat.
Aaron sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aaron on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Aaron tries to get out of the position.
Steamboat is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Steamboat has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Aaron's face.


Aaron is rocked!
Steamboat is landing with some decent strikes but Aaron is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Oh Aaron is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Steamboat postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Aaron out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Steamboat goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Ricky Steamboat!
