Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Abram Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xavier Catlin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xavier Catlin has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Abram Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Xavier Catlin!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Hugh Johnson and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Catlin feints and as Cook raises his hands in defense, Catlin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Cook is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Catlin presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Cook manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Cook tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Catlin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cook. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cook controls Catlin momentarily but Catlin frees himself.
Cook will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Catlin won't allow Cook to sweep him here.
Cook wants to get back to his feet but Catlin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Cook wants to sweep here but Catlin controlling him for the moment.
Cook keeping moving, preventing Catlin from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cook is adopting a defensive guard.
Catlin content to stall in guard here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Catlin shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cook defends it nicely.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Catlin.

Catlin forces Cook back against the cage and clinches.

Catlin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Cook fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Catlin to the ground. Cook is now in Catlin's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Cook is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Cook won't allow Catlin to get back to his feet.

Cook drops back looking for a leg! Catlin is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Catlin manages to kick Cook off! Cook jumps back into Catlin's guard.
Cook wants to control from the top but Catlin keeps moving.
Catlin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Catlin pushes Cook off and gets back to his feet.

Catlin has managed to clinch.
Catlin jumps guard but Cook turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Abram Cook has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Xavier Catlin.
Catlin is trying to pull guard but Cook turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Cook tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Catlin just stands there and leans against the cage.

Catlin breaks the clinch.

Cook closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cook lands in his opponent's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Catlin trying to keep a closed guard but Cook is proving a slippery customer.

Cook thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Catlin looking for a sweep. Not yet Catlin, not yet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Catlin wants to hit a switch here but Cook passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Catlin there!
Catlin is trying desperately to improve position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Abram Cook dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Catlin closes the distance and pushes Cook back into the cage.
Cook tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Cook stops a takedown attempt from Catlin.
Catlin displaying some good clinch control by pressing Cook up against the cage.

Cook successfully pulls guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cook controlling the position.
Catlin is looking to work some ground and pound but Cook has wrist control.
Catlin scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Catlin won't allow Cook to sweep him here.

Cook is looking to cinch up a triangle. Catlin throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Cook's body to avoid the submission. Cook has instead reached around Catlin's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Cook arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Abram Cook!
