PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Donny Tanker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Hugo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Donny Tanker looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Donny Tanker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jean Hugo!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hugo swats away the attempt to clinch by Tanker.
Tanker misses with a leg kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hugo.
No luck for Hugo with that takedown attempt.

Hugo shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Tanker manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Hugo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hugo passes into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hugo gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Tanker is breathing heavily.
Hugo tries a head kick but it misses.
Tanker walks forward, straight into a front kick from Hugo.
Hugo shoots for a double leg takedown but Tanker sprawls well. He's pushed Hugo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Donny Tanker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jean Hugo.

Tanker gets tackled into the cage by Hugo. Hugo maintains the clinch.
Hugo is trying to drag Tanker to the mat but Tanker just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Hugo wants a takedown but no success here.
Tanker jumps guard but Hugo stands there with Tanker around his waist. Tanker gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Hugo blocks an uppercut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hugo gets underhooks to prevent Tanker's takedown attempt.
Tanker wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Hugo has hold of one of Tanker's legs. Tanker is fighting the takedown attempt but Hugo gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hugo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hugo is pushing down on Tanker's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tanker is fighting to maintain full guard but Hugo has managed to sneak the leg through.

Hugo passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Tanker!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hugo cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hugo sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Hugo is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Tanker has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Hugo with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jean Hugo dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Hugo has managed to clinch.
Tanker really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hugo jumps into guard, dragging Tanker to the mat.
Hugo seems keen to control Tanker's posture.

Hugo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tanker defends it easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hugo is on top in guard.

Tanker can't keep his opponent in guard - Hugo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Hugo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tanker doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hugo.
Hugo frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hugo working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Tanker looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Hugo! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Jean Hugo!
