PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Clarke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Minoru Nakano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nakano has chosen Great Muta Concerto as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jacob Clarke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Minoru Nakano!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Fujiwara and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clarke uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nakano.
Nakano just misses with a punch to the body.

Clarke throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nakano's waist but Nakano gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Clarke off to one side.

Clarke moves out of range as Nakano throws a body kick.
Clarke walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Nakano fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Clarke looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Nakano ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Clarke moves away.

and Clarke counters with a single leg into guard. Nakano didn't expect that.

Nakano is looking for a triangle but Clarke pushes his legs off easily.
Nakano manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Clarke manages to get himself to full guard.

We've been hearing good reports from Clarke's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nakano wants to control from the top but Clarke keeps moving.

Nakano is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Clarke is looking to control Nakano's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Clarke avoid being mounted?
Clarke is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Clarke feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Nakano has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Nakano tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Clarke defends well and Nakano ends up having to push Clarke into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Jacob Clarke has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Minoru Nakano.
Nakano shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Clarke defends it nicely.
Nakano shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Nakano cracks Clarke with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Clarke fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Nakano has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Minoru Nakano showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Clarke throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Nakano was covering up waiting for the punch and Clarke finishes the takedown easily into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nakano is on top in guard.


Clarke throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Nakano escapes and throws Clarke's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Nakano is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Clarke knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Minoru Nakano is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Clarke throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Minoru Nakano comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Nakano has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
