Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rusty Merritt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elazar Pantera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Elazar Pantera has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rusty Merritt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Elazar Pantera!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pantera gets a double leg takedown into Merritt's guard.
Merritt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Merritt pulls Pantera in to control the position.

Merritt seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Merritt has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Merritt manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pantera manages to get himself to full guard.


Pantera wriggles free and stands up.

Merritt looks to land a combination. Pantera sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Merritt shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pantera is trying to defend but Merritt finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Merritt stands up and beckons Pantera to join him on the feet.

Merritt throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Pantera tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Merritt is in Pantera's guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Merritt's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That was a close round but I would say that Rusty Merritt will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Pantera shoots in looking for a takedown but Merritt manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pantera's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Merritt thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Merritt stands and steps away. Pantera gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Pantera shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Merritt's guard.
Merritt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

As Pantera looks to move away, Merritt throws a big counter combo but Pantera just gets out of the way.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
