The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Armstrong with a lazy takedown attempt
and James cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Nathaniel Armstrong has been cut.
Nathaniel Armstrong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Armstrong to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Armstrong trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Armstrong has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Armstrong is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on James's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
James is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Armstrong is just riding it out for now. James eventually gives up the hold.
